034 of 2020 - Salt Lake City Flag Redesign R 20-14 R 20-1 SALT LAKE CITY RESOLUTION NO. 34 OF 2020 (A Resolution Adopting the New City Flag) WHEREAS, the City has had a city flag since at least 1963, when Mayor J. Bracken Lee was in office. WHEREAS, the City flag was most recently updated in 2006. WHEREAS, the Mayor’s Office and City Council worked together to sponsor a flag design contest for a new city flag in 2020. WHEREAS, the flag design contest was open to the public, and the City solicited public rating to identify the finalists. WHEREAS, public rating narrowed the finalists down to three finalist flag designs. WHEREAS, a flag design committee reviewed the flag designs and combined two designs to best reflect the City’s desires for a new flag design. WHEREAS, the 2020 flag design created by the flag design committee, is referred to as “the new city flag.” WHEREAS, the City has determined that it is time to retire the old city flag and adopt the new city flag. NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah that the new city flag is adopted, and the old flag shall be retired.
