An ordinance amending Sections 1080 and 1088 of Chapter 47,
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, and amending said
chapter by enacting a new section therein, to be known as Section
1030x1, all relating to railroads and street railroads.
Be it ordained by the Hoard of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Sections 1080 and 1088 of Chapter 47, Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, be, and the same are hereby
amended so as to read as follows:
SECTION 1080. It shall be unlawful for any person to run
or operate any electric street car upon any street of Salt Lake
City at a speed greater than is reasonable and safe, having due
regard for the width, grade, character of traffic, and common
use of said street, or so as to endanger life, limb or property
in any respect whatever, nor at a speed greater than the rate

of fifteen miles per hour in crossing the intersection'of any
street, avenue, or boulevard with another street, avenue or
boulevard, or at a speed greater than at a rate of fifteen
miles per hour when turning from one street into another street,
or at a speed greater than at a rate of fifteen miles per hour
upon any street i31 the congested district of the City, as
defined by ordinance, or at a speed greater than twenty-five
miles per hour over or along any other street in said City.
Upon approaching any bridge, viaduct, or steep descent,
or in traversing any bridge, viaduct, or steep descent, the
operator of such car shall at all times have the same under
immediate control.
SECTION 1088. Any person, firm, or corporation, or any
employee, agent or servant of any such person, firm or corpo-
ration, violating any of the provisions of this chapter,
including Section 1080x1, where a penalty is not otherwise
provided, eicaccpcx shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished
by a fine of not more than 5 299.00, or by imprisonment in the
City Jail for not more than six months, or by both such fine
and izprisonment. The court may, in imposing a fine, enter as
part of the judgment that in default of the payment of the
fine, the defendant may be imprisoned in the City Jail for a
period not exceeding thirty days.
SECTION 2. That Chapter 47, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake
City of 1913, be, and the same is hereby amended by adding therein
and thereto a new section, to be known as Section 1080x1, viich
shall read as follows:
SECTION 1080x1. It shall be unlawful for any motorman
employed upon any electric street car in Salt Lake City, to
engage in conversation with any passenger or they person
while the c r he is operating is in motion,} forany person

operated by said motorman is in motion, upon any of the streets

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect thirty-one days
after its passage.
