Shearman - , 4 Wells --- -- � , t Cie Mr.Chairman Result AN ORDINANCE An ordinance creating a Civic Planning and Art Commission, providing for the appointment of members of said commission, their term of office, and the powers and duties of such commission. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. There is hereby created in and for Salt Lake City, Utah, a Civic Planning and Art Commission, to be composed of seven members, one of whom shall be the Commissioner of Parks and Public Property of said City, who shall be chairman of said commission; one of whom shall be the President of the Board of the Free Public Library; and five of whom shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, of whi artteta s otw ee lr r * When said commission shall have under consideration any matter or matters relating to or under the direction or control of any department of the city government other than the Department of Parks and Public) Property, the Commissioner of such department shall be and become a member of said Civic Planning and Art Com- mission, and participate in the consideration of such matter !t or matters. All members of said Civic Planning and Art Commission shall serve without compensation. Said commission shall have the power and be charged with the -1- 1_06 1 duties hereinafter named, and shall be included in the Department of Parks and Public Property of Salt Lake City, and be under the general direction of the Commissioner of Parks and Public Property. SECTION 2. Within 'days after this ordinance becomes effective, the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City shall appoint five qualified citizens of Salt Lake City to be members of said Civic Planning and Art Commission, who shall hold such posi- tion until 12 o'clock, rigor; .of the second Monday in January, 1915, SECTION 3. On the second Monday of January, 1915, the Board of Commissioners shall appoint three competent and qualified per- sons, citizens of Salt Lake City, members of said Civic Planning and Art Commission to serve for a period of four years, and two such to serve for a period of two years from the date of such appointment. Thereafter said Board of Commissioners biennially, on the second Monday of January of each alternate year, shall appoint members of said Civic Planning and Art Commission, each member to serve for a term of four years. That in case of a vacancy in said commission by reason of the cze� death, removal from the City, resignation or refusal,of or by any of said appointees, the Board of Commissioners shall fill such vacancy by appointing a competent qualified citizen of Salt Lake City, and the person or persons so appointed shall hold such position or positions until the time shall arrive for the appoint- ment of new members of said commission. SECTION 4. The Civic Planning and Art Commission shall have the power to appoint a vice-chairman who shall be an appointed member of said commission; and a secretary who may or may not be a member of said commission, but who shall serve without compensation. SECTION 5. It shall be the duty of said Civic Planning and Art Commission, and it shall have the power to advise and consult with and make recommendations to the Board of Commissioners of -2 • - Salt Lake City upon all matters, plans and proposals affecting the development or artistic adornment of the City, whether in the way of public buildings or structures, parks, drives, boulevards or otherwise. SECTION 6. Said Civic Planning and Art Commission shall hold a regular meeting on the first Monday of each month.
