AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 265 of the Traffic Code of
Salt Lake City, relating to Pedestrians Right-of-Way in Crosswalks.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 265 of the Traffic Code of Salt Lake
City, Utah, relating to pedestrians right-of-way in crosswalks, be,
and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
Sec. 265. Pedestrians right-of-way in crosswalks.
When traffic control signals are not in place or not in
operation, the driver of a vehicle shall yield the right-
of-way by coming to a complete stop to allow a pedestrian
to cross the roadway when the pedestrian is in the cross-
walk any place upon that half of the roadway upon which
the vehicle is traveling, or when the pedestrian is app-
roaching so closely from the opposite half of the roadway
as to be in danger. Such vehicle must not again proceed
until the pedestrian has passed beyond the front of the
vehicle at least two car widths or has reached the oppo-
site lane of traffic. No pedestrian shall suddenly leave
a curb or other place of safety and walk or run into the
path of a vehicle which is so close as to constitute an
immediate hazard.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it
is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effectively immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 16th day of November, 1971.
