Result AN ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE D2SIGNATING AND SETTING ASIDE a certain
portion of Salt Lake City as a residence district, and prevent-
ing the erection, construction, operation or maintenance of cer-
tain businesses therein.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, Utah:
SECTION I. That there is hereby designated and set
aside as a residence district, the portion of Salt Lake City
contained and included within the following described boundaries,
to-wit:
Commencing at a point on the west side of llth.
East Street 50 ft. south of the northeast corner of Lot 12,
Bik. 17, 5-Acre Plat "A", Big Field Survey, and running
thence west 165 ft., thence south along a line 165 ft. west
of the west line of llth East Street 2691.5 ft. to a point
135 ft. north of the north line of 13th South Street, thence
east 165 ft. to the west line of llth East Street, thence
north along the west line of llth East Street 2691.5 ft.
to the place of beginning except the following described
tract of land, commencing at a point 121.6 ft. north of the
southeast corner of Lot 17, Blk. 17, 5-Acre Plat "A", Big
Field Survey, running thence north 72.36 ft., thence west
100 ft., thence south 72.36 ft., thence east 100 ft. to the
place of beginning. ill

SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
(corporation to erect, operate or maintain within the district
described in section I of this ordinance, any packing house, tan-
nery, cannery, rendery, bone factory, slaughter house, soap fac-
tory, foundry, livery stable, butcher shop, bakery or bake shop,
blacksmith shop, coal yard, public laundry, undertaking or embal -
ing establishment, stone crusher, roller mill, machine shop, car-j

pet, clothes, or dry cleaning establishment, planing mill, ice
factory, public garage, automobile repair shop, gasoline service
station, dairy, milk depot, lumber yard, market, store, or place
for the sale of meats, poultry, fish, butter, cheese, lard, vege-
tables and all other provisions, or to erect, operate or maintain
any other business, industry or establishment which may interfere !
with the safe, healthful or comfortable use of the property for
residential purposes, which is included within the district de-
scribed in Section I aforesaid.
SECTION J. It shall be the duty of the building Inspect r
to refuse to grant a permit for the erection or construction of
any building to be hereafter erected, or for the remodeling of any
building now in existence, which may be designated or intended to
. be used for any of the purposes set out in section 2 of this ord-
inance within the residence district described in section I of this
ordinance.
SECTION 4. Any person violating any of the provisions
of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by
a fine in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars (p100.00), or
by imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not exceeding sixty
(60) days. The court may, in imposing a fine, enter as part of
the judgment that in default of payment of the fine, the defendant
ay be imprisoned in the City Jail for a period not exceeding
sixty (60) days.
Each day's operation or maintenance of any of the plantsi
r businesses mentioned in section 2 of this ordinance shall be

construed to be a separate offense.
SECTION 5. In the opinion of the Csoard of Commissioners,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
of bait Lake City that this ordinance shall take effect immediate-
ly.
SECTION 6. This ordinance shall beco:ie effective Upon
its first publication.
