HomeMy WebLinkAbout11 of 1981 - Amending Section 51-32-5 relating to the creation, composition and organizaion of the Historical Lan SALT LAKE CITY ORDINANCE No. 11 of 1981 (Historical Landmark Committee Organization Revision) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 51-32-5 OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, AS AMENDED, RELATING TO THE CREATION, COMPOSITION AND ORGANIZATION OF THE HISTORICAL LANDMARK COMMITTEE. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 51-32-5 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, as amended, relating to the creation, composition, and organization of the Historical Land- mark Committee, be, and the same hereby is, AMENDED to read as follows: Sec. 51-32-5. Historical Landmark Committee. (1) Creation and composition. The City Council may establish and/or terminate an historical landmark committee , hereinafter "Committee", which may advise Planning in matters pertaining to historic districts and landmark sites, hereinafter "Landmarks"; however, all final decisions regarding the same shall be made by Planning as hereinafter provided. The Committee shall consist of not less than nine (9) nor more than a maximum of fifteen (15) voting members. Each voting member shall be a resident of the City interested in preservation and knowledgable about the heritage of the City. Members, to be appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the City Council, shall be selected from the following groups of experts and interested parties as follows: (a) One member from the membership of the Utah Society, American Institute of Architects; (b) One member representing the historical societies of the City; (c) * * * (d) * * * (e) Five members may be citizens at large; (f) One member of the Planning Commission. (g) The Directors of the Planning Department and Building and Housing Services Department (or their desig- nated representatives) shall both serve as ex-officio members without vote. (2) Vacancies and term; compensation. The terms of the Committee members, except for those designated in subsections (f) and (g) above, may be for not more than three years, pro- vided, however, that the terms of the first committee members shall be as follows: (a) Three members - one year; (b) Three members - two years; (c) Three members - three years. Members shall be eligible for reappointment. Vacancies may be filled by the Mayor with the approval of the City Council by appointment for any unexpired term or for the full term as the case may be. Members of the Committee shall serve as such without compensation. (3) * * * (4) * * * (5) Organization. (a) * * * (b) A majority of the voting members of the Committee shall constitute a quorum and Committee action shall require approval by at least a majority of the voting members at a meeting at which a quorum is present. (c) The Committee shall adopt rules for the trans- action of its business and consideration of applications not inconsistent herewith which shall provide for the time and place of regular meeting and for the calling of special meetings. All meetings of the Committee shall be open to the public and a public record shall be kept of the Committee's resolutions, proceedings and actions. -2- (6) * * * (a) * * * (b) * * * SECTION 2.
