AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1-3-2 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to dogs.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 1-3-2 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to the license and registration
of dogs, be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 1-3-2. License and registration required. It shall
be unlawful for any person to own, keep, harbor or maintain
in Salt Lake City any dog which has attained the age of four
months unless such dog has been licensed and registered as
herein provided, and any person convicted of violating this
ordinance shall be punished by a fine in any sum not exceeding
two hundred ninety-nine dollars, or by imprisonment in the
city jail for a period not longer than six months, or by both
such fine and imprisonment. Dog licenses shall be issued by
the department of animal control upon the payment of a license
fee of three dollars for each dog, male or female, to said
department of animal control or an authorized representative
thereof. The owner shall state at the time application is
made for such license, his name and address, and the sex, breed
and color of each dog owned or kept by him. The license fee
shall cover the calendar year in which the license is issued
and such license shall expire on the thirty-first day of
December of the year in which it was issued regardless of the
date of issuance. The provisions of this section are subject
to the following exceptions:
"(1) The provisions of this section shall not be intended
to apply to dogs whose owners are non-residents temporarily within
the city for thirty days or less, nor to dogs brought into the
city for the purpose of participating in any dog show, nor to
commercial kennels.
" (2) Dogs used as guides for blind persons and commonly known
as seeing eye dogs shall be licensed and registered as other dogs
hereinabove provided for except that the owner or keeper of such
dog shall not be required to pay any fee therefor."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is
necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt
Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first pub-
lication.
