AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-16-14 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, as enacted by Bill No. 104 of 1959, and
amended by Bill No, 72 of 1960, relating to employees working on holidays.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Section 25-16-14 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, Utah, 1955, as enacted by Bill No. 104 of 1959, and amended by
Bill No. 72 of 1960, relating to employees working on holidays, be, and
th same hereby is amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 25-16-14. HOLIDAYS.
"(a) The following days are hereby declared holidays for all
employees on the regular monthly payroll of Salt Lake City. All such
employees shall receive their regular rate of pay for each of the
following unworked holidays: (1) New Year's Day, (2) Lincoln's Birth-
day, (3) Washington's Birthday, (4) Arbor Day, (5) Memorial Day, (6)
4th of July, (7) 24th of July, (8) Labor Day, (9) Columbus Day, (10)
Veteran Day, (11) Thanksgiving Day, (12) Christmas Day.
"(b) When any holiday listed above falls on Sunday, the following
business day shall be considered a holiday. In addition to the above,
any day may be designated as a holiday by proclamation of the Mayor,
upon the approval of the City Commission.
"(c) Any employee on the regular monthly payroll of Salt Lake City
who is required to work on any of the above named holidays shall re-
ceive his regular rate of pay for time so worked in addition to his
holidaypay or, at the discretion of his department head, shall be granted
one compensatory day off from his regular work schedule for each holiday
so worked for which said employee shall be compensated at his regular
rate of pay and said employee shall be entitled to such compensatory
time off within one month following the holiday so worked. Such com-
pensatory time off shall be taken as directed by the head of the
department at such time as wuld be most advantageous to the efficient
operation of that department."
SECTION 2. That all employees on the regular monthly payroll of
Salt Lake Clty who were required to work on September 5, 1960, shall receive
co pensation or compensatory time off for time so worked as hereinabove
pr vided.
SECTION 3. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is
necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake
