116 of 1902 - Ordinance 116 of 1902 – Requiring use of fenders on street cars. AN ORDINANCE. An ordinance requiring the use of fenders on street cars. BE IT ORDAINED BY PHE CITY COUNCIL 0E SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH: SECTION 1. All persons, associations or corporations now or hereafter owning or operating street railways in Salt Lake City by electricity, cable or other motive power, shall provide all of their cars, except snow plow cars and sweeper cars, now or hereafter in use, with fenders projecting beyond the front platforms of such cars, and designed to catch and sustain and prevent injury tc any human being who may be in the way of such car; provides that when two or more cars are coupled and operated and run together, such fenders shall be attached to the first or leading car, but need not be(atkehpd kQ;.the others. All such cars shall be equipped with such fenders on or before April tat, 1903. SECTION 2. Any person, association or corporation, or any employee or foreman or superintendent of any person, association or corporation operating or running or directing the operation or running of any street car in Salt Lake City except snow plow cars or sweeper cars, after April 1st, 1903, not equipped with fenders as hereinbefore provided, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, shall be punished by a fine of not less than ten ( $10. ) dollars, and not more than one hundred fifty ( $150. ) dollars for each abd every offense; and each day's omission or neglect to comply with the terms and requirements of this ordinance shall he deemed a distinct and separate offense, and shall he punished in like manner. SECTION 3. Any person who, when not in danger of injury, shall get upon such fender attached to any car, as hereinbefore provided, whether such car be standing still or in motion, shall be deemed quilty of a misdemeanor, and, upon conviction thereof, shall he punished by a fine in any sum not less than ten ( $10. ) dollars, and not exceeding fifty ( $50. ) dollars. • SECTION 4. All ordinances and parts of ordinances inconsistent herewith are hereby repealed. SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upo approval.
