Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Title 49 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to fire hydrants, be, and the same hereby is, amended by adding to said title a new chapter to be known as chapter 9, relating to fire hydrants for private purposes, to read as follows: CHAPTER 9 FIRE HYDRANTS FOR PRIVATE PURPOSES Sections: 49-9-1. Fire hydrants for private purposes. 49-9-2. Fire hydrant specifications. 49-9-3. Water main requirements. 49-9-4. Number of hydrants required for a building. Sec. 49-9-1. Fire hydrants for private purposes. (a) No connections to and/or the installation of water lines or mains involving one or more fire hydrants for private fire protection purposes shall be made without issuance of a special permit from the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City. (b) Any installation of a fire hydrant on private property shall be made at the sole expense of the person requesting such an installation and shall be perpetually maintained by said applicant. (c) Installation made on public property for private purposes shall be made at the sole expense of the person making application therefor and shall be installed in accordance with city ordinances and perpetually maintained by the applicant. (d) If at any time an applicant shall fail to comply with any of the foregoing requirements, the General Superintendent of the Salt Lake City Water Department may, after ten (10) days written notice to applicant and failure to comply therewith, terminate service to the fire hydrant and/or remove it entirely. (e) In no event shall any building erected on private property and used as a dwelling unit for moue than four individual family dwelling units, or for any purpose other than as a dwelling, be located more than two hundred (200) feet from a fire hydraflfr. measured along the curb in front of each said fire hydrant. All water outlets on said fire hydrants installed hereunder must, as nearly as possible, face the nearest access or dedicated street. 119 -2- Sec. 49-9-2. Fire hydrant specifications. All hydrants installed hereunder must comply with the then current specifi- cations for fire hydrants of the Department of Water Supply and Waterworks. Sec. 49-9-3. Water main requirements. No new water main installation used to service a fire hydrant system shall be smaller than six (6) inches in diameter. Sec. 49-9-4. Number of hydrants required for a building. The following table shall be used in determining the number of hydrants to be used for fire protection in connection with the construction of any building not excluded hereunder, with the location of each such hydrant to be determined and designated by the Chief of the Salt Lake City Fire Department. Bond. A performance bond in an amount adequate to cover the cost of construction must be posted before any installa- tion of fire hydrants can begin hereunder in order to assure com- pliance with the foregoing. Said bond will not be released until the requirements hereof are met and all water mains and fire hydrants connected thereto are certified in writing to be in good operating condition by said General Superintendent of the Department of Water Supply and Waterworks. SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is necessary to the peace, health, safety and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately. SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first publi- cation.
