AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 20-3--14.1 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to revenue tax upon business in compe-
tition with public utilities, to clarify the sales and service revenues
subject to said tax.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 20-3-14.1 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to, a revenue tax upon businesses in compe-
tition with public utilities, be, and the same hereby is amended as follows:
Sec. 20-3-14.1. Revenue tax on businesses in competition with
public utilities. There is hereby levied upon the business of
every person or company engaged in the business in Salt Lake City,
Utah, of supplying telephone service, gas or electric energy
service in competition with public utilities, an annual license
tax equal to six percentum of the gross revenue derived from the
sale and use of such competitive services delivered from and after
September 1, 1977, within the corporate limits of Salt Lake City.
"In competition with public utilities" shall mean to trade in
products or services within the same market as a public utility
taxed under section 14 of this chapter.
Within forty five days after the close of each month in a cal-
endar year, any business taxed hereunder shall file with the city
treasurer of Salt Lake City a report of its gross revenue derived
from the sale and use of services specified hereunder rendered in
competition with public utilities in Salt Lake City, together with
a computation of the tax levied hereunder against such business.
Coincidental with the filing of such report, the business shall
pay to the city treasurer the amount of the tax.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect September 1, 1977.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, this
26th day of July, 1977.
