AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER 2, of TITLE 7 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to sentencing,
by adding thereto a new section 7-2-5, pertaining to the sentencing
of alcohol and drug users.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 2 of Title 7 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to sentencing, be, and the.
same hereby is, amended by adding to said chapter a new section 7-2-5,
relating to the sentencing of alcohol and drug users, to read as
follows:
"Sec. 7-2-5. Alcohol and drug users. After determining
that any person is addicted to the use of drugs or intoxicants
to the extent that said person substantially lacks the capacity
to control the use of such drugs or intoxicants, the court may
sentence any such person to the Salt Lake County Alcohol and
Drug Problems Division for such period, not to exceed six (6)
months, as the court deems necessary for such person's rehabil-
itation, as authorized under Section 10-8-47, Utah Code Ann.
1953.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is
necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of
Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first pub-
lication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
