AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sec. 20-10-6 and Sec. 20-10-11, of the
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, as amended, relating
to pawnbrokers.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Sec. 20-10-6 and Sec. 20-10-11, of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, as amended, relating to
pawnbrokers, be, and the same hereby are, amended to read as follows:
Sec. 20-10-6. Id. Record book to be kept. It shall be
unlawful for any pawnbroker to fail to keep a book in which
shall be legibly written in ink, in the English language,
at the time of each loan, purchase or receipt of personal
property, an accurate account and description of the goods,
article or things pawned, purchased or received, the amount
of money loaned or advanced thereon, or paid therefor, the
date, the time, both day and hour, of pawning, purchasing
or receiving such goods, article or thing, and the name, res-
idence and description of the person pawning, selling or
delivering the said goods, article or thing, and no entry
made in said book shall be erased, obliterated or defaced, and
the said book, as well as every article or thing pawned, pledged,
sold or deposited, shall at all reasonable times be open to the
inspection of any police officer, and it shall be unlawful for
any pawnbroker to deliver or to sell or to otherwise dispose of
any of said goods, articles or things for a period of thirty
days from the date of receiving same to any person other than
to the person pawning, pledging, selling, or delivering said
goods, article or thing. If requested to do so by a police
officer, all goods, articles or things pawned, pledged, sold or
delivered to said pawnbroker, must be retained andkeld until
released by the police department.
Sec. 20-10-11. Id. Connections with other business prohibited.
It shall be unlawful for any pawnbroker to keep or maintain his
pawnbroker business in the same room or rooms with any other bus-
iness whatsoever, except that if said pawnbroker has obtained a
valid second hand dealers license and has complied in all parti-
culars with Chapter 16 of this Title 20 then he may carry on the
business of a secondhand dealer in conjunction with his business
as a pawnbroker. The partition walls separating said pawn-
broker's business from other places of business must be of solid
material, and all connecting doors or other openings must be
securely closed and locked at all times. Gratings, lattice or
similar open work or contrivance will not be a sufficient parti-
tion under the provisions of this ordinance. Patrons must enter
and take their exit from all pawnbrokers' places of business
through outside doors and entrances.

SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is
necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt
Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 23rd day of Decenber , 1971.
