Lawrence . . i� �� Morris Mr.Chairman Result An ordinance amending Section 840 of Chapter 33 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, of 1913, creating the office of license assessor and collector, prescribing his duties, providing for the appointment of inspectors and employees, fixing their duties, and providing for the salary of said license assessor and collector, inspectors and employees. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 840 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1913, be and the same is hereby amended and re- enacted so as to read as follows: See. 840. License Assessor and Collector. Inspectors. Empployees. Duties. Salaries. T' ere is hereby created the office su- 14V,4jl . �,nQ.r$+ 4;44 � 4;4,R, of license assessor and collectors The board of commissioners of Salt Lake City may appoint a competent person as license 61n2.J /0 0 ; assessor and collector at a salary of twenty-town hundred (tj ) dollars per year, to be paid monthly as are the salaries of other city officers. Such license assessor and collector shall give /O.Ooa bond to the city in the sum of r thousand ( 00) dollars. Said license assessor and collector may /LeQ appointxte ; subject to confirmation by ch;e board of commissioners, the follow- ing inspectors and employees at the salaries stated: One chief bookkeeper at a yearly salary of twelve hundred (%,200.00) dollars. inspectors at a yearly salary of one thousand ei-ghby /0 6.00 (`$"3,Q86Wr90) dollars.each. One stenographer at a year", salary of seven hundred eighty (4780.00 dollars 4>a All of said salaries to be paid monthly as are the salaries ' of other city otficera and employees. js l;. The license Assessor and Collector shall hare charge of the License Department,assess and collect all license taxes and poll tax as provided by ordin nce. c It shall be the duty of the license assessor and collect- or to assess each licensee in accordance with the provisions of the ordinances and statutes. The assessments shall be based upon the rates established by the ordinances, and all licenses, except liquor licenses, shall be payable annually in advance, and shall date from the first day of January of each year and shall expire on the 31st day of December of each year. Provided, however, that when an application is made after the 1st day of Janua.}y of each year the licensee shall be required to make payment only for the unexpired portion of the year, and, if the application is approved, the license shall be issued for such unexpired portion of the year. The license assessor and collector shallkeep three separate assessment rolls, viz., liquor license roll, merchants' license roll and miscellaneous license roll, and shall also keep a suitable index containing the names of the licensees. The names of the liquor licensees shall be arranged alphabetically in the lic;uor roll; the nacres of the merchant licensees shall be arranged alphabetically in the merchants' license roll, and the names of each class of miscellaneous licensees shall be arranged alphabetically in the miscellaneous license roll. On or before the first day of January of each year the license assessor and collector must complete his assessment rolls. He must take and subscribe an affidavit to the assess- ment rolls to be substantially as follows: "I. ,assessor and collector of license taxes of Salt Fake City, do swear that before the first day of January, 191 , I made diligent in- quiry end examination to ascertain the names of all persons, firms and corporations within the city subject to assessment for license; that the persons, firms and corporations have been assessed on the assessment rolls in accordance with the rates established by the ordinances, to the best of my judgment, in- formation and belief; that I have faithfully com,died with all -2- the duties imposed upon me under this ordinance, and that I have not im-posed any unjust assessments through malice, error or otherwise, or allowed anyone to escape a just and equal assess- ment through favor, reward or otherwise." Failure to take or subscribe such affidavit, or any affi- • davit will not in any manner affect the validity of the assess- ment. • SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect on and after • publication, January 1, 1914.
