AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING and setting aside a certain por-
tion of Salt Lake City as an exclusive residence and commercial dis-
trict and the prohibiting of the erection, construction, operation
or maintenance of industrial plants therein.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION I. That there is hereby designated and set aside
as en exclusive residence and commercial district that portion of
Block 86, Plat "A", Salt Lake City, contained and included within
the following described boundaries, to-wit:
Beginning at the Northwest corner of Block 86, Plat "A",
thence East 166.0 feet; thence South 288.75 feet; thence West 166.0
feet; thence North 288.75 feet to the point of beginning.
Also beginning at the Northeast corner of said block 86,
Plat "A", thence South 660.0 feet; thence West 660.0 feet; thence
North 206.25 feet; thence East 165.0 feet; thence South 8.25 feet;
thence East 216.5 feet; thence South 33.0 feet; thence East 85.125
feet; thence North 165.0 feet; thence East 28.375 feet; thence North
86.O feet; thence West 82.5 feet; thence North 132.0 feet; thence
West 165.0 feet; thence North 112.0 feet; thence East 412.5 feet to
point of beginning.
SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to erect, operate or maintain within the district de-
scribed in Section 1 of this ordinance, any packing house, tannery,
cannery, rendery, bone factory, slaughter house, soap factory,

foundry, livery stable, blacksmith shop, coal yard, public
laundry, undertaking or embalming establishment, stone crusher, 1
rolling mill, machine shop, carpet cleaning establishment, plan-j
ing mill, ice factory, lumber yard, or to erect, operate or main
taro any other business, industry or establishment which may in-1

terfere with the safe, healthful or comfortable use of the pro-

merty for residential and commercial purposes, which is included
within the district described in Section 1 aforesaid.
SECTION 3. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm
Cr corporation to erect, operate or maintain within the following
desoribed district any packing house, tannery, cannery, rendery, ib
bone factory, slaughter house, soap factory, foundry, livery
'stable, blackenith shop, coal yard, public laundry, undertaking
for embalming establishment, stone crusher, rolling,mill, machine
lj1hop, carpet cleaning establishment, ice factory, provided the
umber yard and planing mill establishment now boasted within
said district may continue to operate therein, said district be-
ing described as follows;
Beginning at the northwest corner of Lot 6, Block 86,
k at "A"; thence East 88.50 feet; thence South 112.0 feet; theme
East 165.0 feet; thence South 132,0 feet; thence West 165.0 feet
thence South 44.75 feet; thence West 82.5 feet; thence North
288.75 feet to point of beginning.
SECTION 4. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
'Corporation to erect, operate or maintain within the following
(described district any packing house, tannery, cannery, rendery,
bone factory, slaughter house, soap factory, foundry, livery
(stable, blacksmith shop, coal yard, public laundry, undertaking
or embalming establishment, planing mill, ice factory, lumber
are., provided the heating plant now operated within said dis-

riot, all additions, re-placements thereof and additional cape

triot being described as follows:
Beginning at the southwest corner of Lot 8, Block 86,
Plat "A", thence West 28.375 feet; thence South 165.0 feet;
thence West 85.125 feet; thence North 33.0 feet; thence West
'216.5 feet; thence North 8.25 feet; thence West 165.0 feet;

'thence North 165.0 feet; thence East 247.5 feet; thence/44.75
,feet; thence East 247.5 feet; thence South 86.0 feet to point
of beginning.
SECTION':.$. It shall be the duty of the building Inspect-
or to refuse to grant a permit for the erection or construction
of any building to be hereafter erected, or for the remodeling of
any building now in existence, which may be designated or intend..
ed to be used for any of the purposes prohibited by this ordi-
nance.
SECTION 6. Any person violating any of the provisions
'of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by
la fine in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars ($100.00),

or by imprisonment in the City Jail for a period not exceeding
sixty (60) days. The court ma
y, in imposing a fine, enter as
part of the judgment that in default of payment of the fine, the
defendant may be imprisoned in the City Jail for a period not
exceeding sixty (60)days.
Each day's operation or maintenance of any of the plan-e
or businesses prohibited by this ordinance shall be construed to'
be a separate offense.
SECTION 7. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance take effect immediately.
SECTION 8. This ordinance shall take effect upon it
