Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Title 25 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to advisory boards, be, and the same hereby is amended by ADDING thereto a new Chapter 21. CHAPTER 21 ADVISORY BOARDS Sections: 25-21-1. Procedure for establishing advisory committees. 25-21-2. Abolition of committees. 25-21-3. Review of advisory committees. 25-21-4. Additional duties of the chairman of committees. 25-21-5. Vacancies and compensation of members and terms. Sec. 25-21-1. Procedure for establishing advisory committees. Upon determination by the board of city commissioners that an advi- sory committee should be established, the board of commissioners shall, by resolution, establish such committee setting forth the purposes of the committee, the duties of the members of the committee and the terms of the office of committee members, and to whom the committee shall report. Sec. 25-21-2. Abolition of committees. The board of city commissioners in their discretion may abolish advisory committees by resolution. Advisory committees may be terminated at will and without cause, whenever it is deemed desirable by the board of commissioners. Sec. 25-21-3. Review of advisory committees. The city recorder shall, on or after the 15th day of January in any given year and before January 31 of any given year, provide a list of the existing committees in Salt Lake City for the board's review and determina- tion as to whether or not such committee shall be continued. Sec. 25-21-4. Additional duties of the chairman of committees. Chairman of each committee shall file with the city recorder, on or before the 15th day of January of each year, a report outlining the action of the board during the year and recommending whether or not the board should continue in existence; if recommending the board should continue in existence, the chairman shall outline what actions the committee intends to take during the coming year. This report shall be used to help the board of commissioners determine whether or not said committee shall be terminated. Sec. 25-21-5. Vacancies and compensation of members and terms. Unless otherwise specified in the resolution or ordinance creating such committees, the committee shall consist of five members; the 13 -2- term for committee members shall be for three years; provided, however, that the terms of the committee members shall be staggered with the first terms of office as follows: 1 member one year 2 members two years 3 members three years Vacancies shall be filled by the commission by appointment for any unexpired term or for the full term as the case may be and members of the committee shall serve without compensation. SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect 30 days after its first publication.
