RECEIVED, from the City Recorder a certified cony of
Bill No. 130. for an ordinance requiring the Oregon Short Line Railroad
Company.. to construct a viaduct on Third North Street across their
railroad tracks as said tracks are now laid and maintained where the
same cross Third North Street. at the intersection of Third North
Street with Fourth West Street, as passed by the Board of Commissioners
of Solt Lake City,Utah, at a regular meeting ni' said Board held
December 9th, 1913.

Company, a corroration, to construct a viaduct on Third North •
Street in Salt Lake City, iitao, across the railroad tracks of said
Company as said tracks are no:a laid and r;a.intaiined where the same
cross Third North Street, at the intersection of third North Street
with fourth 'Sect Street and immediately east of said intersection
in Third North Street.
WHEREAS the Oregon Short Line Sci lroad Company is the '
owner of and operates a railroad on Fourth Sect Street and other
streets in Salt Lake City, and from said City to other places in
said State, and in other states, and is daily employing in. such
service a large number of ssenger and freight trains wiic h are
propelled by steam power over its said tracks whith cross third
North Street in said City, at its intersection with fourth ':.lest
Street, and immediately east of said intersection; and
eIER AS there is a large number of the inhabitants of
said City residing on the west side of said railroad tracks, whose
business affairs necessarily require large numbers of them on foot •
and in vehicles by days and by night cocross said railroad tracks
in Third iaorth Street at t e lace aforesaid, and the said traffic
and business,-generally has been pond now is ve :7 large and is in-
creasing; and

sioners of Salt Lore City, Utah:
2EOTIOf 1. That it is necessary Cor the :protection
of the public and the convenience and welfare of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City demand, that the grade of Third forth Street of
said City at its intersection with 2ourth test Street and immed
lately east of said intersection, be raised above the railroad
tracks of the Oregon Short Line Rai lroe.d Company, and that it is
necessary as aforesaid, that too grade of Third forth Street at
and near its intersection with Fourth iest Street, be raised
above the railroad tracks of the said railroad. company, and to
this end that a viaduct be constructed for the purposes aforesaid_
as hereinafter prescribed.
SECTIOf 2. That the Oregon Short Line jiathai
Company, a corporation_ be and it is hereby directed and recuired
to c onstruct at its own expense a •viaduct on Third North street in
said City across Company's railroad tracks situated between\the
west side of loourth ,;est street and the west side of Third 'jest
Street in said City. The length and location of structure shall
be such as to -pre5ent the least obstruction and. the most s onvenie4e
to traZfic. '.Ale height ts con.--!orm to standard overhead clearance
for railroad rurposes, general trafic at cress streets and power
transmission lines. the width of the viaduc't shall be wide anoughl

grades for afhoroachos of the roadway and sidavialks shall not ex

flight of steps on each side leading to the street and. tie side-
walk aphroaches on eachAkond shall confotm to the grade of the
roadway. The structure shall be constructed of either stool
skeleton. with creosoted wooden floor joists and creosoted wood
subbase, or of reinforced concrete throwynout, and either type of
construction adopted by the Railroad Corarany must conform to the
standard specifications for the material employed. 'lire use of
wooden railings shall no-t be peralitted Tho structure shall be
designed and constructed only for ordinary road traffic, including
15-ton road roller, or motor truck, shall be designed and con-
structed to :!:..rovide for proper drainage. It shall have a rein-
forced concrete curb on e ach si de ofthe 'roadway. The surface
of the roadway on the main portion of the viaduct, or where the
grade permits, shall. be creosoted wooden blocks, and on the ap-
proaches and where the grade is too St e :for wooden blocks,
either IA one blocks or bituminous concrete shall be laid, and all
base where stone blocks or bituminous concrete are to be laid,
shall be °I concrete 6 inches in thickness. ',!ooden blocks may be
laid on creosoted subtimber:1 4 inches in thickness, - wooden sub-
timbers to he laid on 5" x 16" creosoted wood.on 'floor joists.
All wooden subtimbers and door joists shall receive a creosote
treatment of 12 pottnds per cubic foot. /Ill wooden blocks used
shall receive a creosote treatment of 16 pods nor cubic foot,
and they shall be thoroughly dry and free from sap before they are
treateO.. Ob.erc eitler wood blocks, stone blocks or bituminous
concrete are used in the roadway aonctruction, they shall meet
with tHo requirements of the standard specifications for such con-
struction. Provisions shall be made in construction of t ho viaduct
for the installation of oc,,cessary 'holes and. :for the wiring
necessary for the installation for lights over all of said. poles.
All work pertaining to the construction of the viaduct shall be.
done to meet the approval of the City 1Magineer and Board of
Commissioners of Salt Lake Cit:;-.
SECPIOP? 3. All columns, pillars or supports of the
superstructure necessarily rehuired to be placed in any part of
the streofe last aforesaid not closed to the public, shall be so
constructed and place ' as not to meterially interfere wit], the
public traffic and use of said streets.

ance shall Save been served upon said company, end thereupon with-
in said time presented to the City knpi.eecr and the Board. of
Comm ssioners of Salt Lek, City for their approval, Chen plans

Commissioners, the said Aei.lroad Company shall within two months -
thereafter, begin the construction of oa;id viridhet,o.nd thereafter
eontinucuhsla carry on said work of construction and complete the
same in such tims as m. he re_.so; _.Ll,y necessary; but; in any event,
finish the entire 'cork -.riahin ei;thteen month„ from the date of
service of this ordinance upon said company. Upon construction
of said viaduct in accordance herewith end its acceptance by the
