AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 180 of the Traffic Code of
Salt Lake City, Utah, relating to restricted vehicles - restriction.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 180 of the Traffic Code of Salt
Lake City, Utah, relating to restricted vehicles - restriction, be,
and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
"Sec. 180. Restricted vehicles. Restriction. (1)
All vehicles, combinations of vehicles or combinations of
vehicle and load having a length of more than forty-five
feet, or a width of more than eight feet with load, or a
height of more than fourteen feet with or without load,
are restricted vehicles.
No restricted vehicle shall enter or occupy any
portion of a central traffic district between the hours of
eleven a.m. and six-thirty p.m. of any day unless so
authorized by a permit issued therefor in accordance with
section 181 of this code.
(2) All restricted vehicles shall be driven only
upon State Highways, including the Interstate System,
within the City limits of Salt Lake, deviating therefrom
only when necessary to traverse another street or streets
when necessary for loading, unloading or servicing, and
then only departing from the said State Highway route at
the nearest reasonable and practical point; provided, how-
ever, that no such vehicle shall be loaded, unloaded or
serviced upon any street or part of street, if there is
usable offstreet loading, unloading or servicing space
available.
(2a) Commercial vehicles which service the intra-
city needs, except those specified in subsections (1),
(3) and (4) of this section, shall use the streets
designated in Schedule 13-a of this code; provided, however,
the said commercial vehicles may use the through streets
in Schedule 9 of this title when such through streets
provide the nearest reasonable and practical point of
deviation from the streets listed in Schedule 13-a to the
said vehicles' point of destination.
(3) Vehicles carrying explosives, corrosives or
flammable substances, in compliance with Department of
Transportation regulations governing such transportation,
may be driven only upon those streets or parts of streets
described in Schedule 13-b of this code, unless otherwise
authorized by a written permit issued by the Chief of the
Salt Lake City Fire Department. The United States
Department of Transportation rules and regulations govern-
ing transportation of explosives, flammables and other

dangerous articles, are applicable to common, contract
and private carriers in Salt Lake City and are hereby
adopted by this reference. In no event shall any such
vehicle operating in violation of the Department of
Transportation rules and regulations operate on any
street or road in Salt Lake City.
(4) The provisions of this section shall not apply
to passenger buses operating under the authority of the
public service commission of this state, nor to authorized
emergency vehicles."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it
is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of
Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
