Gres r, / / /l Phillips Result AN ORDINANCE P`/ AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Chapters 2 and 5 of Title 51 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to sup- plementary and qualifying regulations of the zoning ordinances by ADDING Sections 51-2-1.1, 51-2-17.1, 51-2-60.1, and 51-2-60.2 and Section 51-5-21 and AMENDING Sections 51-5-5(10) and 51-5-6(10) , relating to air conditioners, their definition and placement regul- ation and prohibition. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Chapter 2 of Title 51 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to definitions of zoning ordinances, be, and the same hereby are, amended by ADDING Sections 51-2-1.1, 51-2-17.1, 51-2-60.1, and 51-2-60.2, relating to air conditioners, which shall read as follows: Sec. 51-2-1.1. A-Weighted Sound Pressure Level: The sound pressure level as measured with the sound level metering using the A-Weighting network system. The standard notation for such sound pressure level is designated as dB(A) or dBA. Sec. 51-2-17.1. Decibel. Logarithmic and demension- less unit of measure often used to describing the amplitude of sound. Decibel is denoted as dB. Sec. 51-2-60.1. Sound Level Meter: An instrument including the microphone, amplifier, RMS detector and integrater, time averager, output meter and/ or visual display A-Weighting networks, that is sensi- tive to pressure fluctuations. The instrument reads sound pressure level when properly calibrated and is of type 2 or better as specified in American National Standards Institute Publication SI. 4-1971 or its successor publication. Sec. 51-2-60.2. Sound Pressure Level: Twenty'times the logarithm to the base 10 of the ratio RMS sound pressure to the reference pressure, which shall be twenty micropascals, denoted LP or SPL. SECTION 2. That Section 51-5-5 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to sideyard exceptions, be, and the same hereby is, amended by ADDING subparagraph (10) relating to air conditioners, which shall read as follows: Sec. 51-5-5. Side yard exceptions. The area of the required side yard shall be open and unobstructed except for the following: (Sub. 10) Stationary and window-mounted air conditioners, fans and heating pumps may be located in the required side yard area of any structure in any residential or business zone. Such air conditioners, fans, or heating pumps may be allowed to project into any required side yard provided such air conditioner, fan or heating pump, does not create a sound pressure level (SPL) of more than fifty dBA's when mea- sured with a sound level meter at the nearest property line of the property being occupied by said unit. SECTION 3. That Section 51-5-6(10), relating to the regulation of an air conditioner in a rear yard, be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows: Sec. 51-5-6(10) . Rear yard exceptions. The area of a required rear yard should be open and unobstructed except for the following which are permitted: * * * (10) Stationary and window-mounted air conditioners, fans, and heating pumps, provided such air condi- tioners, fans or heating pump does not create a sound pressure level of more than fifty dBA's when measured with a sound pressure level meter (SPL) at the nearest property line of the property being occupied by said unit. SECTION 4. That Chapter 5 of Title 51 of the revised ordi- nances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to supplementary and qualifying regulations of the zoning ordinances, be, and the same hereby is, amended by ADDING Section 51-5-21 relating to air conditioners, noise and placement regulations, which shall read as follows; Sec. 51-5-21. Air Conditioners. Air conditioners, noise and placement. Stationary or window-mounted air conditioners, fans and heating pumps are prohi- bited within the required front yards as provided in Section 51-5-7 herein, but may be allowed to project into side and rear yards as provided in Section 51-5-5(10) and 51-5-6(10) . SECTION 5.
