Result AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance relating to the use of buildings, barns, stables,
covered structures and enclosures for the keeping of horses, cows,
mules or other animals; providing for the care and maintenance of
the same, and providing a penalty for violation of this ordinance.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or •
corporation to keep or maintain, or permit to be kept or maintained
upon any premises owned, kept or controlled by such person, firm or
corporation, any building, barn, stable, covered structure or
enclosure within which any horse, cow, mule or other animal shall
be housed or kept, unless such building, barn, stable, covered
structure or enclosure shall be located, constructed, maintained and
oared for so as to conform to the following requirements, to-wit:
(a) No such building, barn, stable, covered structure or
enclosure, or any part of the same, shall be located, constructed,
kept or maintained within forty feet of any building used as a
dwelling for human habitation.
(b) Every such building, barn, stable, covered structure or
enclosure shall be connected with a public sewer, and when no sewer
is accessible, shall be connected by drain into a properly constructed
cess-pool outside of such building, barn, stable, covered structure
or enclosure.

(c) The floor of such building, barn, stable, covered structure,
or enclosure shall be of concrete or other water tight and non-
absorbent material, and be so placed and drained as to discharge
all liquid matter into a properly trapped sewer or cess-pool.
(d) Every such building, barn, stable, covered structure or
enclosure shall be adequately ventilated by either natural or
mechanical means, and provide for not less than one thousand cubic
feet of air space in the clear for each animal kept therein.
(e) Walls, ceilings, exposed woodwork, floors, stalls and
drains shall be maintained in a clean condition at all times, and
the walls, ceilings and exposed woodwork kept white-washed and
maintained in a sanitary condition.
(f) All manure and stable refuse shall be kept within such
building, barn, stable, covered structure or enclosure in a non-
leakable, fly-proof receptacle, as provided for in Section 447 of
the Revised Ordinances of 1913; such manure and stable refuse shall
be removed at least twice a week, and in such manner as not to
pause a nuisance.
(g) The stable yard connected or used with any such building,
barn, stable, covered structure or enclosure shall be maintained in
a clean oondition, and the surface thereof graded so as to prevent
the accumulation of liquids thereon.
(h) Every place where animals are kept or allowed to stand
shall be maintained in such manner as not to create nuisance or
permit the breeding of flies.
SECTION 2. Any person violating any of the provisions of this
ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by a fine •in
a sum not exceeding $50.00, or by imprisonment in the City Jail for
a period not exceeding thirty days. The court may in imposing a
fine, enter as part of the judgment that in default of the payment
of the fine, the defendant may be imprisoned in the City Jail for
a period not exceeding thirty days.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
