AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Chapter 16 of Title 2 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, by REPEALING Section 2-
16-9, relating to vehicles for hire, AMENDING Section 2-16-11,
relating to motor vehicle regulations, and ADDING thereto five
new sections to he designated as Sections 2-16-12 through 2-16-
16.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1 . That Section 2-16-9 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to vehicles for hire, be,
and the same hereby is, REPEALED.
SECTION 2. That Section 2-16-11 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to motor vehicle
regulations, be, and the same hereby is, AMENDED as follows:
Sec. 2-16-11. Purpose of the following sections.
Section 2-16-12 through Section 2-16-16 are enacted for the
purpose of requiring those persons and corporations which
conduct business at the Airport by providing ground
transportation as their sole business or as a part of their
business such as, but not limited to, providing courtesy car
service, to assist in defraying the expense of providing
certain facilities and services including, but not limited
to, the Airport roads, curbs, special parking facilities,
traffic control, snow removal, lights, and other related
Airport facilities and services for ground transportation
vehicles using the Airport and to create an equitable
assessment of fees for its use.
SECTION 3. That Chapter 16 of Title 2 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to motor
vehicle regulations, be, and the same herehy is amended by ADDING
thereto five new sections as follows:
Sec. 4-16-12. Definitions. The following words and
phrases, whenever used in this chapter, shall be defined as
provided herein unless a different meaning is specifically
or more particularly described:
(a) Automobile or station wagon. "Automobile" or.
"station wagon" shall mean any motor vehicle which if

registered with the State of Utah as a commercial vehicle is
so registered as a gross weight of less than 6000 pounds, or
if not registered commercially, that said vehicle would
receive a weight classification as gross weight of less than
6000 pounds, if such vehicle were to be registered
commercially.
(b) Bus. "Bus" shall mean any motor vehicle operated on
the streets and highways for hire which is registered with
the State of Utah as a cross weight of over 36,000 pounds,
on a scheduled or non-scheduled basis and operated by
authority of a Certificate of Convenience and Necessity
issued by the Public Service Commission of. the State of
Utah. Provided, however, that such terms shall not include
any buses operated by the Utah Transit Authority.
(c) Courtesy car. "Courtesy car" shall mean any motor
vehicle other than a taxicab, bus or limousine which is
regularly operated for the transportation of customers
and/or baggage between the Airport and any motel, hotel,
auto rental office or parking lot, which is situated off
Airport property.
(d) Director of Airports. "Director of Airports" or.
"Director" shall mean the duly appointed and qualified
Director of the Airports, selected by the Airport Authority
and appointed by the Commission.
(e) Ground transportation vehicle. "Ground
transportation vehicle" shall include a bus, mini-bus,
courtesy car, limousine and taxicab.
(f) Limousine. "Limousine" shall mean any motor
propelled vehicle, except taxicabs, buses or mini-buses
operated on the streets and highways for hire with a driver
furnished, operated on a scheduled or non-scheduled basis,
operated by authority of a Certificate of Convenience and
Necessity issued by the Public Service Commission of the
State of Utah.
(g) Mini-bus. "Mini-bus" shall mean anv motor vehicle
operated on the streets and highways for hire which is
registered with the State of Utah as a arose weight of
16,000 to 36,000 pounds, on a scheduled or non-scheduled
basis and operated by authority of a Certificate of
Convenience and Necessity issued by the Public Service
Commission of the State of Uah. Provided, however, that
such term shall not include any mini-buses operated by the
Utah Transit Authority.
(h) Taxicab. "Taxicab" means a motor vehicle used in
the transportation of passengers for hire over the public
streets of Salt Lake City and not operated over a fixed
route or upon a fixed schedule, but is subject to contract
for hire by persons desiring special trips from one point to
another. It does not include an automobile rental licensed
under any other section of these ordinances.
(i) Van. "Van" shall mean any motor vehicle which is
registered with the State of Utah as a gross weight of 6,000
to 15,000 pounds.
Sec. 2-16-13. Service pickup. All persons operating a
ground transportation vehicle on the premises of the Airport
shall pick up passengers only in a special pickup zone as
designated by the Director. Ground transportation vehicles
may occupy said zone only for the period of time established

Sec. 2-16-14. Fee. There is hereby established the
following fees for all ground transportation vehicles
picking up any passenger or passengers at the Airport:

Sec. 2-16-15. Toll booth. . No ground transportation
vehicle which has picked up a passenger or passengers at the
Airport shall depart the Airport without stopping at the
toll booth on the outbound side of the terminal loop road
and paying the fee required by Section 2-].6-14 of these
Revised Ordinances:.. `
Sec. 2-16-16. Method of payment. Payment of the
required fee at the toll booth may be paid for either by
cash in the required amount or by the payment of a token or
tokens in the required amount which tokens have previously
been obtained and paid for at,such location as designated by
the Director.
SECTION 4. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of
Salt Lake City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare
of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become
effective immediately.
SECTION 5. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
