AN ORDINANCE AMENDING CHAPTER LVII, Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, by adding in and to said Chapter
a new Section to be known as Section 178811, relating to streets,
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, Utah:
SECUION I. That Chapter LVII, Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, Utah, 1920, be and the same is hereby amended by adding
in and to said chapter a new section to be known as Section 1788X1,
relating to streets, to read as follows:
SEC. 1788X1. It shall be unlawful for any person
to erect, build, maintain, swing or use any scaffold, ladder
or staging over or upon any street or sidewalk for the pur-
pose of cleaning, painting, repairing or remodeling any build-
ing or other structure, or for the purpose of erecting, paint-
ing, cleaning, repairing or servicing of any awning, canopy,
or sign, without first obtaining from the Inspector of Build-
ings a permit for the occupation and use of said street or

sidewalk, -and for such periods of time and under such limita-
tions and regulations as may be required by ordinance or pro-
mulgated by the Building Inspector. Provided, that such permit
may be revoked by the Building inspector when the holder thereof
fails to comply with any rule or regulation under which it is
granted, (or any ordinance;) or when in the opinion of the Build-
ing Inspector, public convenience and safety require such revo-

cation. Provided, further, that when in the opinion of the
Building Inspector the welfare and convenience of the
public will be best served, a continuing permit, revocable
as hereinbefore provided, may be issued for the sole purpose
of cleaning and servicing awnings and signs.
No permit shall be granted until the applicant
thereof shall have given a continuing bond in the sum of
not less than V5,000.00, to be approved by the Board of
Commissioners; said bond to run to Salt Lake 4ity and to
any person injured or damaged by reason of the failure of
the principal to exercise due care or to comply with the
provisions of the City ordinaneew).
For the issuance of a permit provided for in this
section, the Building Inspector shall collect a fee of One
Dollar ($1,00); provided, where a fee is required for a per-

I mit for the erection of any sign, no additional fee shall
be collected for the permit required in this section.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissionersl,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitant
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
MOTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
publication.
