AN ORDINANCE DESIGNATING AND AETTING ASIDE a certain
portion of Salt Lake City as a residence district, and preventing
the erection, construction, operation or maintenance of certain
businesses therein.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt
Lake City, Utah:
SECTION I. That there is hereby designated and set aside
as a residence district, the portion of Salt Lake City contained
and included within the following described boundaries, to-wit:
Beginning at the J.W. corner of Block 31, Ylat "PT,
Salt Lake City survey, said point being the intersection of
the south property line of 1st south Street with the east pro-
perty line of 12th East st.; thence east along the south pro-
perty line of 1st South St. 1109.6 ft. to the west property
line of University St.; thence south along the west property
line of University St. 791,91 ft. to the south property line
of 2nd South St.; thence west along the south property line
of 2nd South Street 320.33 ft. to the east property line of
13th East Street; thence south along the east property line
of 13th East Street 55.0 feet; thence east 165.0 feet; thence
south 65.0 feet; thence east 155.33 ft. to the vest property
line of University Street; thence south along the west pro-
perty line of University Street 1341.07 feet to the north
property line of 4th South Street; thence west along the north
property line of 4th South Street 1113.30 feet to the east
property line of 12th East Street; thence north along the
east property line of 12th east Street 2243.81 feet to the
place of beginning;

section of the south property line of 4th south Street with
the east property line of 12th East Street, running thence
east along the south property line of 4th South Street 365.0
feet; thence south 80.0 feet; thence east 140.0 feet; thence
north 80.0 feet to the south property line of 4th South Street;

thence north along the east property line of 12th Mast Street,
2243.64 feet to the place of beginning, said territory in-
eluding all of Blocks 10, 15, 23, 26 and 31 and parts of
Blocks 9, 16, 18, 24, 25 and 32, Plat "P", Salt Lake City
Survey.
SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or
corporation to erect, operate or maintain within the district de-

foundry, livery stable, butcher shop, bakery or bake shop, black-

smith shop, coal yard, public laundry, undertaking or embalming
establishment, stone crusher, roller mill, machine shop, carpet,

clothes, or dry cleaning establishment, planing mill, ice factory,)
public garage, automobile repair shop, gasoline service station,
dairy, milk depot, lumber yard, market, store or place for the
sale of meats, poultry, fish, butter, cheese, lard, vegetables
land all other provisions, or to erect, operate or maintain any
Mother business, industry or establishment which may interfere wit

Ithe safe, healthful or comfortable use of the property for resi- I
dential purposes, which is included within the district described,
in Section I aforesaid.
SECTION 3. It shall be the duty of the Building Inspect-
Ilor to refuse to grant a permit for the erection of construction o
lany building to be hereafter erected, or for the remodeling of a
building now in existence, which may be designated or intended to
be used for any of the purposes set out in Section 2 of this ordi-
nance within the residence district described in Section I of thie
1 ordinance.
SECTION 4. Any person violating any of the provisions
of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punished by
a fine in any sum not exceeding one hundred dollars (:100.00), or

by imprisonment in the Uity Jail for a period not exceeding sixty
1 (60) days. The court may, in imposing a fine, enter as part of
the judgment that in default of paykent of the fine, the defender+
may be imprisoned in the City Jail for a period not exceeding
! sixty (60) days.
Each day's operation or maintenance of any of the
plants or business mentioned in Section 2 of this ordinance shall;
9 be construed to be a separate offense.
SECTION 5. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioner's,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall take effect immediate-

SECTION 6. This ordinance shall become effective upon
