Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION I. That the second paragraph of Section 507 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1934, relating to location, construction and installation of underground tanks, be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: "No such tanks may be located inside the walls of any building. The Board of Commissioners may upon such terms and conditions as they shall prescribe for the safety of per- sons using public property Permit tanks of such size as they shall deem proper to be located under the sidewalk or street or beneath the surface in public alleys or where the space under a sidewalk or street is excavated and used as part of basement. All such permits may from time to time be modified or may be revoked for cause upon notice to permit holder who shall. be given an opportunity to be heard before said Hoard of Commissioners. Application for permission to place tanks in public property shall be referred to the Chief of the Fire de- partment and City Engineer for recommendation before the same shall be granted. Such tanks may rest either on basement floor or beneath it; provided, that tanks resting on or beneath the basement floor must be surrounded by, a brick or concrete wall not less than twelve (12) inches thick, extending from bottom of tanks to four (4) feet above top thereof. The space between top of tank and top of wall shall be filled with earth which -g- shalL be covered with a layer of concrete at least three (3) inches thick. Where more than one such tank is installed on any premises, the board of Commissioners may recuire that tanks shall be separated by at least one (1) foot of sand well tamped in place and no such tanks shall be covered unless inspection has been made by the Chief of the Fire Department. Tops of all such tanks shall be below the lowest pipeline in the building or structure used in connection with storage tank. 6ECTIONB. In the opinion of the Board of Commis- sioners, it is necessary. to, the peace, health and Safety of the in- habitants of Salt Lake City-, that,.this ordinance shall take effect immediately.
