Mr. Chairman Result AN ORDINAN E An ordinance amending Chapter 26 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, relating to the Fire Department, by amending Section 792 in said chapter, as amended by an ordinance passed by the Board of Commissioners July 31, 1917, and by adding a new section to be known as Section 792x1. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 792 of Chapter 26 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, relating to the Fire Department, as amended by an ordinance passed by the Board of Commissioners July 31, 1917, be, and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows: SECTION 792. COMPENSATION. The officers, employees, men and agents of the Fire Department shall receive yearly salaries, payable monthly, not exceeding the amounts as follows: Chief of Department 6'3,000.00 Assistant chief 1,800.00 Captains, each 1,560.00 Lieutenants, each 1,320.00 Supt, of fire and police alarm 1,800.00 Master mechanic 1,800.00 Inspector 1,320.00 ' Secretary 1,500.00 Firemen of first grade, each 1,260.00 Firemen of second grade, each 1,140.00 Firemen of third grade, each 1,020.00 _(; -1- . I 'I SECTION 2. That Chapter 26 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, relating to the Fire Department, be, and the same is hereby amended by adding in said chapter a new section to be known as Section 792x1, said new section to read as follows: SECTION 792x1. GRADING, ETC. Firemen without previous experience shall be appointed to the third grade only, and may be promoted upon recommendation of the chief of the fire department after service of one year, if, in the opinion of the chief of the fire department, their service and ability entitle them to promotion. The chief of the fire department may appoint into the second grade applicants who, in addition to regular requirements, have served at least one year in the third grade in this service or two years in fire service outside of the fire department of Salt Lake City, or a term of enlistment in the United States army. The chief of the fire department may appoint into the first grade applicants Who, in addition to regular requirements, and having had two or more years service in fire service, are especially qualified. All applicants must successfully pass such examinations as may be required by the prescribed rules and regulations. No member of the fire department shall be allowed pay for any period during which he may have been absent from duty, unless such absence resulted from sickness or dis- ability contracted or received in the discharge of his duty and incident to the service. No member of the fire department shall receive any fee or any compensation what- ever, directly or indirectly, from a city, county or state for any service rendered or act done by such member of the fire department, other than the salary provided for by ordinance, except witness fees in superior courts, nor -2- shall any member of the fire department receive any money or compensation whatsoever, directly or indirectly, from any person, for any service rendered, or to be rendered or act done, other than the salary provided for by ordinance; provided, however, that a gift or reward may be accepted by a member of the fire department only upon the written recommendation of the chief of the fire department and approval of the Commissioner of Public Safety. SECTION 3.
