Result amended by striking out of subdivision 4 of said
Section 1268 all following the words "responding
to a fire call", and substitute therefor and as part of said sub-
division 4 the following:
"No person shall operate a self-propelled vehicle of the
police department or fire department of Salt Lake City within the
district bounded on the north by the north side of North Temple
Street, on the west by the west side of West Temple Street, on the
south by the south side of Fourth South Street, and on the east by
the east side of State Street, at a greater rate of speed than one
mile in three minutes, and elsewhere upon any of the streets of
said city, at a greater rate of speed than one mile in two minutes.
"Main Street between South Temple Street and Fourth South
Street must not be used by said departments in responding to a call,
except in crossing said Main Street or in responding to a call upon
said 4Beakn Street."

Result AN ORDINANCE
An ordinance amending Section 1268 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, 1913, as contained in Chapter 57, relating to
traffic and travel on streets.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah;
SECTION 1. That Section 1268 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, 1913, as contained in Chapter 57 of said ordinance
relating to traffic and travel on streets, be, and the same is here-
by amended so as to read as follows:
"Section 1268. Speed regulations. (1) No person shall
operate a self-propelled vehicle on a street of Salt Lake City
at a rate of speed greater than is reasonable and proper, having
regard to the width, character, traffic and use of the street,
or so as to endanger life or limb on any street where the
territory contiguous thereto is closely built up, at a greater
rate of speed than one mile in six minutes, or elsewhere in said
city at a greater rate of speed than one mile in four minutes.
(2) Upon approaching a bridge, viaduct, sharp curve, dug-
way or deep descent; also in traversing such bridge, viaduct,
curve, dugway or descent, the person operating such vehicle shall
have it under control and operate it at a rate of speed not ex-
ceeding one mile in six minutes, and upon approaching a crossing
of intersecting streets at a rate of speed not greater than ten
miles per hour.

(3 ) Upon approaching any person walking in a roadway or
traveled portion of any street of Salt Lake City, or a horse or any
other draft animal being led, ridden or driven therein, or a cross-
ing of intersecting streets or a bridge, viaduct or sharp turn or
curve, dugway or deep descent, and also in passing such person,
horse or other draft animal, and in traversing such crossings,
bridge, viaduct, curve, dugway or descent, the person operating
such self-propelled vehicle shall have the same under control and
shall reduce its speed. If such horse or other draft animal being
so led, ridden or driven shall appear to be frightened, or if the
person in charge thereof shall request or signal so to do by putting
up his hand, the person operating said vehicle shall immediately
stop, and if traveling in the opposite direction, shall remain
stationary so long as may be reasonable to allow such horse or animal
to pass; or if traveling in the same direction, shall use reasonable
caution in thereafter passing such horse or animal so as to prevent
accident and insure the safety of others, and to prevent frightening
the same, and shall not use the exhaust cut out of such vehicle when
so approaching or passing such horse or other draft animal.
(4) The provisions of subdivisions 1, 2 and 3 of this section
shall not apply to the driver or occupant of any vehicle of the
police department of Salt Lake City when on duty,or to the driver or
occupant of any vehicle of the fire department of Salt Lake City when
responding to a fire call. No person shall operate a self-propelled
vehicle of the police department or fire department of ualt Lake City
upon any of the streets of said city at a greater rate of speed than
one mile in two minuted. "
SECTION 2. THIS ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
