Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Section 1845-1 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to definitions of terms used in swimming pool ordinances, be, and the same hereby is amended by ADDING subsection g. thereto. Sec. 18-15-1. Definitions. The following definitions shall apply in the interpretation and enforcement of this code. The word "shall" as used herein indicates a manda- tory requirement: g. WAVE ACTION POOL. A special purpose pool with mechan- ically produced waves or swells." Sec. 18-15-19. Slope of bottom. a. The slope of the bottom of any portion of the swimming pool having water depth of less than five feet shall not be more than one foot in 12 feet and said slope shall be uniform. In portions where the depth is greater than 5 feet, the slope shall not exceed 1 foot in 3 feet. b. The above requirement shall not apply to wave action pools. Bottom slope specifications for wave action pools shall be set by the Health Department upon review of the engineering data showing that the bottom slope specified in the project plans and does not create any undo safety hazards. Sec. 18-15-28. Decks and walkways. a. A continuous deck at least five feet (and preferably eight or more feet) wide shall extend completely around the swimming and also the wading pool, if provided. The deck shall be sloped away from the pool to drain at a grade of 1/4 to 3/8 inch per lineal foot and shall have d nonslip surface. Deck drains connected to the recircu- lation system or gutters shall be provided only with specific permission of the Health Department. Decks shall remain free from litter and in a sanitary condition. b. Notwithstanding the above provision, hydrotherapy pools designed for use by more than one person may be provided with decks if built as a separate facility or located beyond the swimming pool enclosure and with con- trol to prohibit any type of recreational activity. If decks are provided, they shall be at least 3 feet wide and shall be sloped away from the pool to drain at a grade of 1/4 to 3/8 inch per lineal foot and shall have a nonslip surface. Deck drains connected to the recirculation system or gutters shall be provided only with specific permission of the health department. Decks shall be maintained free from litter and in a sanitary condition. SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
