Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Sections 30-1-1, 30-1-2, 30-1-5 and 30-1-9 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to the positions in the police department, be, and the same hereby are amended as follows: "Sec. 30-1-1. Organization. The police department of Salt Lake City shall consist of the following officers and employees and no others, who, except for the chief of police, shall be appointed by the appointing power subject to the approval of the board of commissioners from the certified list of the civil service commission of Salt nake City for each office or position to be filed, to wit: Chief of police, who shall be the head of the police department the appointing power. Assistant chiefs. Captains. Lieutenants. Director - civilian components. Administrative technician (administrative assistant to chief of police) . Administrative secretary II. Bomb technician - supervisor. Sergeant. Bomb technician. Public safety athletic program coordinator. Police officer. Probation Grade 3 Grade 2 Grade 1 Sergeant. Graphic illustrator/artist/photographer. F -2- Key punch operator. Grade 1 Grade 2 Grade 3 Grade 4 Police clerk III. Police clerk II. Grade 4 Grade 3 Grade 2 Grade 1 Programer/analyst. Research assistant. Secretary - civilian components. Police clerk I. Grade 4 Grade 3 Grade 2 Grade 1 Cadets. Crime lab technician. Grade 1 Grade 2 Grade 3 "Sec. 30-1-2. Salaries of cadets. The salary of a cadet shall be two dollars and fifty cents ($2.50) per hour, not to exceed a nineteen- hour work week, plus a fifteen dollar ($15.00) per month uniform allow- ance where a uniform is required. "Sec. 30-1-5. Appointment and removal of assistant chiefs. Two assistant chiefs shall be appointed by the chief of police with the advice and consent of the board of commissioners from the members of the police department. Such assistant chiefs shall act with the chief of police in supervising the operations of the department and shall confer with the chief of police to establish policies for the functioning of the department and conduct of the personnel therein. 0 F:n -3- The offices of assistant chiefs shall become vacant, and the terms of office of all assistant chiefs then in office shall cease, upon a vacancy occurring in the office of the chief of police whether by death, resignation or removal, but such assistant chiefs shall continue to serve until their successors are duly appointed and qualified. Any assistant chief whose term of office shall terminate as herein provided shall be eligible for reappointment. Assistant chiefs may at any time be removed by the chief of police without cause, without charges being preferred and without trial, hearing, or opportunity to be heard, except as required by law, whenever in the opinion of the chief the good of the service will be subserved thereby. Any assistant chief removed from office as herein provided shall be restored to the position occupied in the department prior to appointment to the office of assistant chief. "Sec. 30-1-9. Assignment. The chief of police may assign any sub- ordinate member or employee in the department to any duty which in his judgment the good of the service may require and may change such assignment from time to time whenever in his judgment the good of the services requires." SECTION 2. In the opinion ofte Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, it is necessary to the health, peace and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
