OJEOTIO::1 I. There is hereby cr,eated a new section in
Chapter 29, ).evised Ordinances of palt Lake City, Utah, 1C20,
to be known as ,,ection 1221, )rohibiting book-making: and cool
selling, fhich said section shall read '.).o follows:
,)ECTIO21 1221. It shall oe unlawful Zor any per-
son to engage in Pool selling or Pook-makin, with or without
writing: at ) icy time or plce; or for any person to keep or
occupy any room, ehe-., tenement, tent, tooth or builOing,
flat or veer , or any pert thereof, or to occupy any place
or stand of cry kind ur,on any public or )rivate ?wounds
with-
in the corporate limits of Call ?Sake City, with or without
books, 2a:pers, ,-.pp'ratus or :araphernelia, or the purpose
o2 recording, receiving, reporting or reiistell n, pets or
wagers, or Purported or pretesued bets or we gore, or to sell
pools or make 000ks with or without writing:, upon the result
' of trial or contest of skill, speed or poaer of endurance
of man or beast, or upon the reaolt of lot, chnice, casualty
unknown or contingent event :thatsoe-ver; and it shall be un-
lawful for any Person to receive, register, report or for-
ward or pretend or )urport to receive, register, report or

consideration of value, bet or wagered or offered for the pur-
pose of being bet or wagered or to sell pools upon such result
or pretended or purported result; and it shall be unlawful for,
any person to conduct, keep, carry on or maintain by himself
or his agent or employees any turf exchange, pool room or other
place by whatever name known where bets or wagers or pretended;

bets or wagers on the result of any horse race or purported
horse race wherever run, or contest or purported contest of
skill or of endurance of men or animals wherever made or had.,
are, or may be made, received or paid. And it shall be unlaw-
ful for the owner or lessee or occupant of any said place to
knowingly permit any part of the premises to be used for the
purpose of conducting any turf exchange, pool room or other
place for the purpose of receiving bets on the result of any
horse race or pretended or purported horse race or on the re-
sult of any contest or purported contest of skill or endurance
of men or animals.
It shall be unlawful for any person to bet or wager
anything of value on the result of any horse race or purported
horse race or upon the result of any contest or purported con-1
test of skill or endurance of men or animals by means of book-
making, pools or other devices; and it shall be unlawful for
any person to aid, assist or abet in any manner in any of said)
acts which are hereby forbidden.
SECTION 2. Any person found guilty of violation of any of
the provisions of this ordinance shall be punishable by fine of not

Ito exceed Two Hundred Ninety-nine Dollars ($299.00), or six months
in jail, or both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 3. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
