AN ORDINANCE AMENDING that portion of Section 30-1.1 of the
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, as heretofore amended by
an ordinance adopted February 17, 1956 (Bill No. 8), and an ordinance
adopted November 28, 1958 (Bill No. 73), relating to salaries of meter
readers.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That the portion of Section 30-1-1 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, as heretofore amended by an
ordinance adopted February 17, 1956 (Bill No. 8), and an ordinance adopted
November 28, 1958 (Bill No. 73), relating to salaries of meter readers,
be, and the same hereby is, amended to read as follows:
"METER READERS:
Female, 1st Grade $3420,00
Female, 2nd Grade 3240.00
Female, 3rd Grade 3060.00
Female, 4th Grade 2880.00
"A meter reader shall commence employment in the
department as a meter reader, 4th grade. A meter reader
having served at least one year in the department may be
promoted to meter reader, 3rd grade. A meter reader having
served at least two years in the department may be promoted
to meter reader, 2nd grade. A meter reader having served
at least three years in the department may be promoted to
meter reader, 1st grade. Provided, however, that those
persons serving as meter readers on the date of passage of
this ordinance who have so served in excess of one year
prior thereto shall be eligible for promotion from their
present grade, to and including 1st grade depending:_upon
the amount of their prior service, without serving any
specified time in the intermediate grades. It is further
provided that all ingrade promotions shall be contingent
upon full compliance with the rules and regulations of
the Civil Service Commission upon examination and ascer-
tained merit.
"The foregoing salaries shall be effective and payable
from November 1, 1958."
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it

is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of
Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 25th day of March , 1959.
