(Sick Leave Benefits for City Employees)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTIONS 25-9-2, 25-9-3 and 25-9-9.4
OF THE REVISED ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, RELATING
TO SICK LEAVE BENEFITS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Sections 25-9-2, 25-9-3 and 25-9-9.4 of the
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, are hereby
amended to read as follows:
Sec. 25-9-2. Hospitalization. In addition to the sick
leave authorized by Section 25-9-1, each officer and full-time
employee of Salt Lake City shall be entitled to thirty (30) days
hospitalization leave except for members of the combat division
of the fire department who shall be entitled to 15 duty shifts
off for hospitalization leave each calendar year, provided that
such leave may be taken only if, and during the period that, such
officer or employee is actually confined to a hospital. Hospital
leave shall not accumulate from year to year.
Sec. 25-9-3. Accummulation of sick leave allowed.
Authorized and unused sick leave may be accumulated from year to
year for all full-time, regular employees of the city.

Sec. 25-9-9.4. Retirement benefits. In addition to the
sick leave conversion privilege to vacation days above described,
at retirement an employee shall be paid in cash, at the person's
current pay scale, a sum equal to his daily rate of pay for 25
percent of the accumulated sick leave days reserved for the
benefit of said employee at the date of his retirement under the
provisions of Section 25-9-3 of this chapter. However, in no
case shall such compensation include payment for in excess of 25
percent of 135 accumulated sick leave days or 25 percent of 67-
1/2 on-duty shifts for combat fire fighters. Such sick leave
retirement benefits shall also be available to executive level
employees who have not retired from employment with the City when
employment has been terminated by death or resignation (provided
that in case of death, benefits shall be payable to the
employee's survivor) occurring after the date the employee has
become eligible for full-service retirement from the city and
after January 1, 1979.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
