AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Chapter 3 of Title 5 of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to Housing Code.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City,
Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 3 of Title 5, of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, relating to the Housing Code, be, and the same
hereby is, amended to read as follows:
CHAPTER 3
HOUSING CODE
Sections:
5-3-1. Housing code adopted.
5-3-2. Governing body.
5-3-3. Defintions.
Sec. 5-3-1. Housing code adopted. Volume III of the Uniform
Building Code, 1970 Edition, relating to housing is hereby adopted
by Salt Lake City as an ordinance, rules and regulations of said
city, subject to the amendments and exceptions thereto as here-
inafter set out; three copies of which code shall be filed for
use and examination by the public in the office of the Recorder
of Salt Lake City. The purpose of this code is to provide mini-
mum requirements for the protection of life, limb, health,
property, safety and welfare of the general public and the owners
and occupants of residential buildings within Salt Lake City and
providing for violation thereof.
Sec. 5-3-2. Governing body. All references to the city
council in the Uniform Building Code, Vol. III, Housing, 1970
Edition, adopted by Sec. 5-3-1, are amended to read the Board
of Commissioners of Salt Lake City.
Sec. 5-3-3. Definitions. For terms not herein defined, see
pages 11 and 46, Uniform Building Code, Volume III, 1970 Edition.
Apartment House. Apartment house is any building, or
portion thereof, which is designed, built, rented, leased,
let, or hired out to be occupied, or which is occupied as the
home or residence of three or more families living inde-
pendently of each other and doing their own cooking in the
said building and shall include flats and apartments.
Lodging house. See Rooming house.
Rooming house. Rooming house shall mean any dwelling or
that part of any dwelling containing one or more rooming
units, in which space is let by the owner or operator to
three or more persons who are not husband or wife, son or
daughter, mother or father, or sister or brother of the
owner or operator, and where meals may or may not be served
to guests.

SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Salt Lake City Board of
Commissioners it is necessary to the peace, health, safety and welfare
of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective
immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 23rd March
