An ordinance amending Sections 1099, 1100, 1106, 1107, 1108
and 1117 of Chapter 51 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City
of 1913, relating to sewers.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Sections 1099, 1100, 1106, 1107, 1108 and
1117 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1913, as
contained in Chapter 51 of said ordinances, be, and the same are,
hereby amended so as to read as follows:
SECTION 1099. INJURING SEER PROHIBITED. It shall be
unlawful for any
person to injure, break or remove anz,i portion
of any sewer or of any sewer appliance or appurtenance, or to
discharge into a sewer any inflammable gas, gasoline or oil,
or any calcium carbide or residue therefrom, or any liquid or
other material or substance which will evolve an inflammable
gas when in contact with water, sewage or fire. Oil separators
installed in any building where volatile fluids are used must
not be connected directly or indirectly with a sewer.
SECTION 1100. OBSTRUCTION. It shall be unlawful for any
person to empty or discharge into a public sanitary sewer any
garbage, refuse, night-soil or other similar matter, or any
substance or thing likely to obstruct the sewer, or any sub-
stance solid or liquid other than the waste products for wk#b.ffi

which said sewer is provided.
jl SECTION 1106. REVOCATION OF ='.YRI.IIT. All permits for
sewer connections shell be issued to the plumber or dra.in-
layer who is to do the work; but the superintendent of sewers
may at any time revoke a permit on account of defective work.

SECTION 1107. :DISCHARGE OF SURFACE PATER PROHIBITED. I
shall be unlawful for any person to connect with a public
sanitary sewer any drain or pipe which discharges r€inpwater,
cellar or surface Water, or the contents of any spring,
flowing-well, creek, ditch or other water course, or any steau-
exhaust or blow-off. The overflow from blow-off boilers or
heating plants shall not be permitted to enter a sewer at a
temperature above one hundred and twenty (120°) degrees
Fahrenheit. The discharge of the contents of waste pipes
'from water filters, gas engines, soda-water fountains, air
compressors, vacuum or dry cleaners, garages, stores or ware-
houses containing inflammable oils, car barns, carriage
houses, laundries, buildings for the stabling or keeping of
horses, cows and other animals, end all similar establish-
ments, shall not be made into or connected with a public
sanitary sewer, unless such contents are discharged into
settling tanks properly trapped end vented, said tanks to be
of a construction approved by the superintendent of sewers,
end to be at all times subject to his inspection and
condemnation.
SECTION 1108. OTHER PIPES. It shall be unlawful for
any person to lay any gas or water pipe or other conduit
vertically above a- public sewer, in the trench in which such
serer hes been laid, not within tao feet horizontally from

such serer, or slow the trench in which it hes been laid.
SECTION 1117. WHEN .PERM,?IT uIL".LL I10T BE ISSUED. Permits
to connect with the public sewer shell not be issued unless
the plumbing in the house or building to connected is in
accordance with the provisions of Chapter 40.
No permit shall be issued to any licensed plumber during
the time that he shall fail to remedy any defective work,
after he has been notified that he has been held responsible
therefor under these regulations.
No licensed plumber shall allow his name to be used by
any other person or party, directly or indirectly, either for
the purpose of obtaining a permit, or to do any work under
his license.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shell take effect one day after
its first publication.
