AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SEGli'ION 6607 of Chapter LXIV of the
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake/City, Utah, 1944, and amending said
Chapter LXIV, relating to Sights and measures and oil inspection,
by adding in and to said'Chapter a new section to be known as Sec-
tion 6637.
Be it_pr'ained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION I. That Section 6607 of Chapter LXIV of the Re-
vised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1944, relating to weights
and measures and oil inspection, be and the same is hereby amended
to read as follows:
"SEC. 6607. CONDEMNATION OF INCORRECT WEIGHTS AND
MEASURES. The City Sealer of Weights and Measures and Oil In-
spection shall condemn and seize, and may destroy incorrect
weights and measures or weighing or measuring devices which
in his beat judgment are not susceptible of satisfactory re-
pair: but such as are incorrect and yet may be repaired, he
shall mark or tag as "Condemned for repairs" and such marks
or tags shall not be removed from such device by anyone except
an authorized repairman or an authorized representative of the
department of weights and measures and oil inspection. The
owner or user of any weights or measures, or weighing or measur-
ing devices, wo marked or tagged shall have the same repaired
or corrected within ten days unless upon satisfactory showing
the Sealer of Weights and Measures and Oil Inspection shall
extend such time, and he shall neither use nor dispose of the
same in any way, but shall hold the same at the disposal of
the Sealer of Weights and Measures and Oil Inspection. Any
weights or measures, or weiirlg or measuring devices, that

have been condemned for repairs and have not been repaired
as required above, shall be confiscated by the Sealer of
Weights and Measures and Oil Inspection."
SECTION 2. That Chapter LXIV of the Revised Ordinances
of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1944, relating to weights and measures
and oil inspection, be and the same is hereby amended by adding in
and to said Chapter a new section to be known as Section 6637,
which shall read as follows:
"SEC. 6637. REPAIRING OR ADJUSTING OF SCALES OR OTHER
WEIGHING OR MEASURING DEVICES. PERMIT. (a) No person, firm,
partnership, corporation, or association, desiring to main-
tain or carry on the business of, or engage in, the repairing
or adjusting of scales or other weighing or measuring devices
shall do so without a permit issued by the Sealer of Weights
and Measures and Oil Inspection. Any person, firm, partnersh p,
corporation, or association, desiring such a permit, shall
make written application for the same to the Sealer of Weight.

determine whether or not said applicant is qualified to make
such repairs, and if said applicant is approved, a permit s#a 1

revoked at any time for any violation of this ordinance or th.

(b) All repairmen granted permits by the Sealer of Weigh s
and Measures and Oil Inspection who install, repair, or adjus
the adjusting device used to control the measure of liquid in
liquid-measuring devices, shall, when making such intallation
repair, or adjustment, place a lead seal on said adjusting de
vice in such a manner that it will be necessary to break the
seal to make future adjustments. This seal shall bear an idea-
tification number which shall be issued by the Sealer of Weig is

same for purposes of repair or adjustment.
'(c) The Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah,
shall prescribe "and adopt such rules and regulations as it ma,
deem necessary for the enforcement of this ordinance; such
rules and regulations shall be consistent with the provisions
of this ordinance."
SECTION 3. In the opinion of the 'Board of Commissioners,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall take effect immediatel,.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect at once upon
