"AN ORDINANCE RATIFYING AND CONFIRMING THE TRANSFii;R OF FRANCHISES
TO UTAH LIGHT AND RAILWAY COMPANY, A CORPORATION, EXTENDING THE
LIFE OF SAID FRANCHISES AND AMENDING THE SAME, INCLUDING THE FRAN-
CHISE OF THE UTAH POWER COMPANY,'" APPROVED AUGUST 4th, 1905.
BE IT ORDAINEED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH:
SECTION I.
That Section II of the above named ordinance be, and the
same is hereby, amended to read as follows:
See;tion II. The life, validity and terms of each and every one
of the said franchises, including the above named ordinance
approved August 4th, 1905, be, and the same are hereby, extended for
the period of fifty years from July 1st, 1905, that is to say,
until July 1st, 1966; also that the franchise granted by said
city to Utah Power Company, dated December 28th, 1896, (the capital
stock of said company being now owned by the Utah Light and Railway
Company ) is hereby extended the same length of time, that is to say,
until the said first day of July, 1955.
SECTION II.
That Section III of the said ordinance is hereby amended
to read as follows:
Section III. That the time fixed by Sections II and III of
an ordinance amending and re-enacting certain resolutions granting
franchises to the predecessors of the Utah Light and Power Company,
passed December 31st, 1903, for the placing of transmission wires
underground in the district therein mentioned, and the time fixed
therein for each and every other act therein required, except as
herein limited, is hereby extended two (2) years from the time
therein named, provided that the said company, its successors and . .

assigns, shall place its transmission wires underground for a dis-
tance of not less than sixteen blocks in said district during the
y ear 1907, and shall complete the placing of said transmission
wires underground in said district within five years from January
1st, 1905, and the said Utah Light and Railway Company is hereby
authorized, subject to the approval of the engineer of Salt Lake
City, to locate in the streets of said district, the places in
which the said wires shall be laid, and the right to excavate and
build the necessary underground conduits and ways for such trans-
mission wires is hereby granted and confirmed.
SECTION III.
A&d be it further ordained that Section VIII of said ordinance
be and the same is hereby amended so as to read as follows:

Section VIII. The right of way is hereby granted to the said
Utah Light and Railway Company, its successors and assigns, to
build and operate a single or double track street railroad over the
following streets of said city, namely:
First: On West Temple Street from Third South street to the
southern boundary line of said city;
Seconds On Fifth South street from Second West street to
Third West street, to a connection with the Oregon Short Line rail-
road.
Third: On Fifth South street from Fifth East street to
Seventh East street.

to West street on the west border of the Fort Douglas Military
Reservation, thence north on said West street to Third Avenue,
Thirteenth: On Third Avenue from 0 street to West street
on the west boundary line of Fort Douglas Military_Reservation.

Seventeenths From the intersection of Second South and Third
West streets north to North Temple street.
Eighteenth: From the intersection of Second South streetvand
Fifth West street north on Fifth West street to First South street,
thence west on First South street to Eighth West street, thence south
on Eighth West street to Second South street, thence west on Second
South street to the Jordan River.
Nineteenths On Seventh South street from Second West street
west to the Jordan River.
SECTION IV,
WHEREAS, the Utah Light and Power Company has purchased
Block Twenty-five (26) Plat "B" in said city, for the pu.pose of
erecting thereon car houses and other structures to be used in con-
ncction with the said street railway system and for the storage of
material for the purposes of construction and reconstruction of its
said lines; and
WHEREAS, it desires to convey over its tracks on Fifth South
street from the Oregon Short Line Railroad to the said block, its
said building material, the said company is hereby authorized to
locate its said tracks in said street between Third West street and
Seventh East street, at a sufficient distance apart to enable it to
transport its said material to said Block Twenty-five upon the freight
cars upon Which said material may be transported over said Oregon
Short Line Railroad, and it is hereby permitted and authorized to so
transport its said material.
SECTION V.
The said tracks hereby authorized to be constructed and
operated, shall be laid upon such grades as are now or may hereafter
be established by the City Council, and subject to the provisions
and conditions contained in the franchise heretofore granted. to the
City
Salt LakeARailroad Company and heretofore assigned to the said

Utah Light and Railway Company, approved January 26th, 1889.
SECTION VI.
Said company is hereby granted the right to operate all
of the said additional tracks hereby authorized to be constructed
for the transportation of passengers, in the same manner as it is
authorized by the several franchises heretofore granted to it and
its predecessors in interest, and the right and authority is also
hereby granted to the said Utah Light and Railway Company to trans-
port upon any or all of its railway tracks in said city, mail and
express matter, and it is hereby granted the additional right to
transport freight over its said lines of railway in said city, be-
tween the hours of twelve o'clock midnight and six o'clock A.M. of
each day, and may also transport such freight at such other times
as the City Council may by resolution from time to time specially
authorize.
, SECTION VII.
The rights and franchises hereby granted and confirmed are
for the term of fifty years from and after the first day of July,
1905.
SECTION VIII.
The said grantee shall, within thirty days from the approval
of this ordinance, file its acceptance, in writing, thereof, with
the City Recorder of said city.
SECTION IX.
This ordinance shall take effect upon approval.
