II AN ORDINANCE . 11 An ordinaaoe amending and re•-enaoting Sections 784, 786, 787, :788, 794, 800, 801, 809, 810, 811, 812 and 813 of the Revised Ordi- nanoes of Salt Lake City of 1903, and amending Bestial 789 of said ;Revised Qrdinamees as amended by an ordinanee passel by the City ; Council Marsh 12, 1906, and approved by the Mayor March 13, 1906, each Viand all of said ssetions being contained is Chapter 68 of the Revised' Ordinanoes of Salt Lake City of 1903, relating to waterworks. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SMOTIOY 1. That Sections 784, 785, 787, 788, 794, 800, 801, 8091, 810, 811, 812 and 813 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1903, be, and the same are hereby amended and re-enacted so as to ',read as follue: 11 784. DUTY OF SUPER28TENDEAT. The superintendent shall, under the direction of the layer and City Council, have charge of the conduits, reservoirs, water tanks, water mains, fire hy- draats, and all **Shivery, property and 57 — kas appurtenances appertaining to the waterworks. He shall have the direction of the putting in of service pipes, and the regulation of the water; supply to fire hydrants and to all water takers. He shall re- port to the Mayer and City Council annually, or oftener if re- quiret, his doings as superintendent and the condition of the I waterworks, and make such suggestions as the nature of the ser- vice may require. 785. FIRE HYDRANTS AND DRINKING FOUNTAINS. It shall be unlawful for any other person to open gng or operate any fire hydrant, or to attempt to draw water therefrom, or to obstruct the approach thereto. No other than regulation curb boxes and curb and cellar checks shall be used in connection with the waterworks. If say person asrlsets, fails or refuses to pay his water rates within slaty days from the date of said notice, the City Treas- nrlr shall notify the Superintendent of Waterworks, who shall hare the water turned off from the premises of such delinquent, and before the water shall be turned en again, all delinquent water rates must be paid in full up to the end of the term as assessed, and one dollar additional for expenses. Any water taker not using water after the assessment has been made, must report it to the Superintendent of Waterworks and have the water,; shut off; if he fails to do so, the full amount assessed must be' paid. No allowance will be made for non-use for less than threel months. The minimum charge for water used through a meter shall be sixty (60) cents per month. Water meters may be put in at the water taker's expense whenever it iS considered necessary by the Superintendent of Waterworks; and the same shall he put in by therSuperintendent of Waterworks upon the written request of any water taker at such water taker's own amp ense. In all eases a deposit shall be required as pro- wiled 'by ordinance. *Mousers shall keep all meters upon their premises from freezing, and the surroundings clear and clean; provided, that when a meter gets out of order and fails to register, the water taker shall be charged for the time it is out of order at an average daily rate as registered by the meter when in order. 813. WATER METERS TO BE PLACED IN BREWERIES, ARTIFICIAL ICE PLANTS, HOTELS, ETC. All breweries, bottling works, artifi- oial ice plants or other manufacturing establishments, all rails ways, power houses, cold storage plants, steam and hand launarias, -7- all hotels and shies buildings having more than twenty-five reams 'soh, livery stables, and other establishments using large quantities of water from the waterworks system, shall place water meters is their rsepoetiwe places of business and pay for water 1 by measurement. Meters will be furnished and maintained by the City apex the water taker depositing the net cost thereof with 1 the City Treasurer, who shall issue a certificate of deposit for: said amount, which amount shall be refunded to the holder upon the retest of the meter and surrender of the sertifioate. Where annual lallataiallatilxindit assessments or water rates have already been male upon any of the business establishments hereinbefore mentioned, the Superintendent of Waterworks is hereby authorized; to withdrew said assessments from the date that water meters are pissed in such establishments, and thereafter sharge for water by meter rates. All water meters shall be under the control of the Superintendent of Waterworks, who shall eause the same to be'. read quarterly or oftener if necessary, and furnish bills to the City Treasurer for eolleotion, against all water takers supplied'. with water throe* meters. It shall be unlawful for any person by himself, family, servants or agents, to open, interfere, with, injure, deface, or in any wise impair the workings of any water meter. SECTION' 2. That Section 789 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt ;Late City of 1903, as amended by an ordinance passed by the City Coun- cil Marsh 12, 1906, and approved by the Mayor March 13, 1906, be, and the same is hereby amended and reenacted so as to read as follows: 789. QUALITY OF SERVICE PIPE. PERMIT AND FEE. All service and other pipes used underground shall be of cast iron, standard galvanized iron, extra strong lead or tin-lined lead (except pri- vate pipes where the City Council authorizes the use of special material), laid not less than four feet below the surface of the! -a- ground., and of suffielent strength to stand the water pressure. All work alien, and alterations or extensions of water pipes, and sic* of pipes shall be to the aoceptance of the Superintendent. No eonnection of service pipes shall be made tem without first Obtaining a permit therefor from the Serintendent, for which permit there shall be paid the sum of one dollar; and no exten- sion shall be gado -to another water taker from the same service pipe without a step-nook ad key-box being attached at the junetton of suoh sersiSe pipe. SECTION 3. All ortigiances and resolutions or pert e of ordinances and resolutions in confliet herewith are hereby repealed to the elate* of such conflict. SECTION 4.
