An ordinance amending Chapter 27 of the Revised Ordinances of
'Salt Lake City of 1903, relating to licenses, by adding a new section
to be known as Section 402a, defining lodging and rooming houses, and
providing for licensing the same.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter 27 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City of 1903, relating to licenses, be, end the same is hereby
.amended by adding a new section to be known as Section 402a, defining .
lodging and rooming houses, and providing for licensing the same,
said new section to read as follows:
SECTION 402a. DEFINING LODGING AND ROOMING HOUSES. LICENSES
FOP SAME. INSPECTION. Whoever shall keep a,house in which
sleeping rooms or apartments are or may be let or hired without
board, is deemed a lodging or rooming. hone keeper, and said
place a lodging or rooming house. Every lodging or rooming house
keeper before commencing to conduct said business, shell make and
file with the License Assessor of this city a written application
in the form of an affidavit, which affidavit shall state the
name or names of the person or persons who propose to carry on
said business; the street, number and name of the place where
said business is proposed to be carried on, the number of rooms
of all kinds, %er e-:

license, or the person or persons who propose to carry on said
business hate or hold a license from the U. S. Government for
the sale or disposal of any kind of liquor. After the receipt

of such application :'or a license the License Assessor shall
inspect or cause the place where said business is proposed to be

carried on to be inspected, and he shall investigate or cause to
be investigated as to the general reputation of said place, and
the reputation and oharacter of the person or persons who pro-
pose to carry on said business, and as to the character and rep-
utation of the persons lodging, rooming or frequenting said place, „

to sell or dispose of any kind of liquor;

said. License Assessor shall with said application for a license
transmit to the City Council a report as to the facts found as a
result of 1°A.Q. inspection and investigation. Upon the receipt of
said application and report, the City Council shall pass upon
the same, and direct the issuing of said license, or refuse to
do so, as it shall deem right and proper.

frequently examine and inspect allplaces where a license to carry
on a lodging or rooming house is in force,, whether the said li-
cense ;lia now in force or shall hereafter be granted; that such
examination and inspection shall be made in regard to the general
reputation of the place; the reputation and character of the
person or persons conducting the sane, and as to the character
end reputation of the persons lodging, rooming in or frequenting
said piece, and whether said place or the person or persons con-
ducting the same has or have a U. S. Government licence or permit
to sell or dispose of any kind of liquor, and if any person has
been arrested charged with violating any law of the State or
ordinance of the city at said place, and if said place is being
conducted in a quiet, lawful end peaceable manner.
If said License Assessor shall find anon any such exam$ ton

and inspection that the general reputation of any such place, or
that the character or reputation of the person or persons con-
ducting the sane, or that the character or reputation of the per-
sons lidging, rooming; or frequenting said place is or are bad,
or that since a license was issued to the person or persons con-

SECTION 2. All ordinances and resolutions, or parts of ordinances
and resolutions in conflict herewith, are hereby repealed to the
ettent of such conflict.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon approval.
