AN ORDINANCE .
An ordinance prohibiting prostitution and the keeping of houses
of ill-fame in the City of Salt Lake, and within a three mile limit
of the outer boundaries thereof, and repealing Section 460 of the
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City of 1903, and an ordinance
amendatory thereof enacted July 6, 1909. •
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. BAWDY HOUSES. DISORDERLY HOUSES. KEEPING. RESI-
DENCE IN. RESORTING TO. OWNING. HAVING CONTROL OF HOUSES OF ILL-
NAME. It shall be unlawful for any person firm, association or co -
poration within the limits of Salt Lake City, Utah, or within thre=
miles of the outer boundaries thereof:
1. To keep, maintain or permit to be kept or maintained upon
or in any property owned, occupied or leased by or to such person,
firm, association or corporation any bawdy, or other disorderly
house, house of ill-fame or assignation house.
2. To keep, maintain, or permit to be kept or maintained upon
or in any property owned, occupied or leased by or to such person,
firm, association or corporation, any building, place or structure,
resorted to or used in whole or in part by one or more females for
lewdness or prostitution.
3. To resort to, or reside in any place mentioned in subdivi-
sions one and two of this section for the purpose of lewdness, pros
titution, or unlawful sexual intercourse.
4. To keep a house of ill-fame resorted to for the purpose of
prostitution or lewdness; or to wilfully reside in such house; or
to resort thereto for lewdness.
b. To be the owner of any building or tenement, the whole or
any part of which is used for.any of the purposes mentioned in the
fourth subdivision of this section.
6. To have control of such building or tenement as agent,
guardian or lessee of such owner; after written notice to such

owner, agent, guardian or lessee that such building or tenement is
being used for the purposes mentioned in subdivision four of this
section.
7. To let any building or tenement, knowing that the lessee
intends using the same, or any part thereof, for the purposes men-
tioned in the fourth subdivision of this section; or to harbor or
keep about his, her, their or its premises any person known to be
guilty of following a lewd course of life.
SECTION 2. Any person, firm, association ox„'corperation
'
violating any of the provisiona._RI this ordinance, shall, upon oon
viotion thereof, be punished by:a fine of not more than $50.00, or
by imprisonment in the city Jail: for not more titan thirty days, or
by both such fine antimprisonment.
SECTION 3. Section 460 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Zak
City of 1903, and an ordinanoe amendatory thereof, enacted July 6,
1909, are hereby repealed. All offenses committed as therein pro-
vided, prior to this ordinance becoming effective, shall be prose-
cuted and punished as by said repealed ordinances provided.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect upon and after •
publication thereof. //
