AN ORDINANCE

AN ORDINANCE NSENDIBG CHAPTER LX, Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, by adding in and to said chapter a new
section to be known as Section 1880X1, relating to through highways.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION I. That Chapter LX, Revised Ordinances of Salt
Lake City, Utah, 1920, be and the same is hereby amended by adding
in and to said chapter a new section to be known as Section 1880X1,
relating to through highways, to read as follows:
SECTION 1880X1. The following streets in Salt Lake
City are hereby designated as through highways and the Chief
of Police is hereby directed to erect at the entrance thereto
from intersecting streets signs notifying drivers of vehicles
to come to a stop before entering or crossing such designated
highways, to-wit:
State Street, otherwise known as 1st avast Street,
from 9th South Street south to the city limits;
2nd :lest Street, from North Temple Street north to
the junction of said street with Beck Street at about 7th
North Street;
Beck Street, from its junction with 2nd ;Jest Street
at about 7th North Street, north to the city limits;
13th Bast Street from 1st South Street south to
21st South Street;
21st South Street from State Street east to 27th

5th ;east Street from 9th South Street to 21st Southl
Street.
SECTION 2. It shall be unlawful for the ariver of
any vehicle to fail to stop such vehicle in obedience to a stop
sign at the entrance of any through highway designated in Section
1 of this ordinance.
The sign to be erected by the Chief of Police shall
have upon it in large letters at least eight inches in height thel
'word "stop" and in smaller letters the words "thru highway."
SECTION 3. Any person violating any of the provi-
sions of this ordinance shall, upon conviction thereof, be punish-
i
led by a fine in any sum not exceeding Two F:undred. Ninety-nine I
(k299.00) Dollars, or by imprisonment in the City Jail for a per-
, iod not longer than six months, or by both such fine and imprison-
ment. The court may in imposing a fine enter as part of the judg-

Iment that in default of the payment of the fine the defendant may
be imprisoned in the City Jail for a period not exceeding six
months.
SECTION 4. This ordinance shall take effect thirty
(30) days after its passage.
