Resut ■E AN ORDINANCE AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 49-9-1, 49-9-2, 49-9-3, 49-9-4 nd 49-9-5 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt-Lake City, Utah, 1965, elating to fire hydrants on private property. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, tah: SECTION 1. That Sections 49-9-1, 49-9-2, 49-9-3, 49-9-4, and 9-9-5 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965,relating o fire hydrants on private property, be, and the same hereby are, mended to read as follows: "Sec. 49-9-1. Fire hydrants on private property. (a) No person, firm or corporation shall install a fire hydrant or fire hydrant water supply piping on private property or cause I the same to be done, without first obtaining a permit for each such structure from the Salt Lake City Department of Building and Housing Services in accordance with the provisions of Title 29 of the ordinances of Salt Lake City. (b) Any installation of a fire hydrant or fire hydrant supply piping under this section shall be made at the expense of the owner of the property upon which such installation is made and said hydrant shall be installed and perpetually maintained by said person, or his successor in interest, in compliance with the applicable fire hydrant specifications, regulations and agreements of the Department of Water Supply and Waterworks. (c) It shall be unlawful for any person to complete more than 30 per cent of the construction of any new building or building addition, other than buildings designed for use as three or less individual family dwelling units, when said building is located on private property more than two hundred (200) feet from a fire hydrant, measured along the nearest curb line in front of each said fire hydrant. Whenever a building inspector determines that any work is being done contrary to the provisions of this section, he may order the work stopped by notice in writing served on any person engaged in the doing or causing such work to be done, and any such per- son shall stop such work until authorized by the building official to proceed with the work. "Sec. 49-9-2. Fire hydrant specifications. All water outlets on fire hydrants installed hereunder must meet the specifications of the Department of Water Supply and Water- works. "Sec. 49-9-3. Water main size requirements. No new water main installation used to service a fire hydrant system shall be smaller than six (6) inches in diameter. 27 -2- "Sec. 49-9-4. Number of hydrants required for a building. The following table shall be used in determining the number of hydrants to be used for fire protection in connection with the construction of any building not excluded hereunder, with the location of each such hydrant to be determined and designated by the Chief of the Salt Lake City Fire Department: BUILDING AREA SQUARE FEET NUMBER OF HYDRANTS REQUIRED 1 Story 2 Stories or more (without basement) (1 story and basement) Up to 5,000 1 1 5,000 to 15,000 2 2 15,000 to 40,000 2 3 40,000 to 100,000 3 4 100,000 to 200,000 4 5 200,000 to 300,000 5 6 300,000 to 400,000 6 8 Over 400,000 Discretion of the Fire Department "Sec. 49-9-5. Bond. A performance bond in the amount adequate to cover all costs of fire hydrant construction must be posted in the Department of Water Supply and Waterworks before any installa- tion of fire hydrants can begin hereunder. Said bond will not be released until the requirements hereof are met and all water mains and fire hydrants connected thereto are certified to be in compli- ance with all applicable ordinances and agreements by the Chief Plumbing and Mechanical Official of Salt Lake City." SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is neces- sary to the peace, health and welfare of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City t at this ordinance become effective immediately.
