I' -ti FOPAN OPOINANCE FOR THE CONSTHUCTTON OF BICY(A PATHS AND BEGULAPIN r ME USE OF BICYCLH;S. Be it ordained by the City Counti.l of Salt Lake Ci ty,Utah, That: Sec. 72. Salt Lake City by and throe ji its proper officers and agents shall at once commence to build and construct and shall non- _ time with reasonable dispatch until completed, suitable and proper bicycle paths upon and along rl1 of the public streets, situated arid"' being within the district bounded by the North line of South Temple Street, the East line of Fifth East Street, the South line of Sixth South Street, and the West line of Second West Street, provided that on South Temple Street, First South, and Second South Streets said paths shall extend to and include 10th East Street on the East, and on South Temple Street to and i nclt1di n Third West Street on the West. The ditches running along saa-d—streets w rcj 5,1 s shrRJ1. be constructed as hereinabove de:-igna.ted, as well as all other depressions and excavations on said strip of five feet, shall be filled and the II surface of the ground made even. The surface of said paths shall he at €i lest eight inches higher and above the surface of the redular street adjointnra said paths; along such MOW place or places where no i.rri.« gating ditches shall be,excava ted between said paths and the street, the outer wall of said path or paths shall be retained and protected by some suitable structure for that purpose. When constructed, e1l rock or other obstructing; material shall_ be removed from said paths, and the surface of said paths shall be covered with cinders or ,ravel, and shall be rolled and made even. Sec. 3. It shall be the duty of the supervisor of streets of said. city to maintain and keep said bicycle paths in good repair,and to keep the same free from all roblcs and all other obstructions. Sec. 4. It shall not be lawful for any person to walk or ride upon the said pats, except when riding or wheeling a bieycle,snd except in the necessary crossings of said paths to and from the side walks and adjoining premises. Nor shall it be lawful for. any peron to ride, drive, or lead, or permit any animal, or drive, run, opperate,or permit any vehicle except a, bicycle thereon except in the said neces- sary crossings of said paths to and from the side walks and adjoining premises. Nor shall it be lawful for any person to place garbage, rub- bish, or obstacles, or any obstruction on said paths. Sec. 5. It shall be lawful for any person to ride rY. ,4 k ., ,1 ,bicycle upon any public side walk within said city not within the said district hereinbefore designated; and upon public side walks within said districts, except paved streets from and between the first day of October and the first day of May of each year, where along said side walks, bicycle paths are not constructed. Sec. 6. All persons riding or wheeling any bicycle on said paths or side walks when meeting another shall seasonably before such meeting, turn to the Sec. 7. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride a bi- 1 cycle on said paths at a speed greater than eight miles per hour or on arz side walk at a speed greater than six miles per hour . Sec. 8.
