Romney Smart . . . t/ Mr. Chairman . ,/ AN ORDINANCE Result . . . . s' AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Sections 22-1-2, 22-1-3 and 22-1-4 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to the number and appointment, the term of office and the qualifications of members of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake City. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That Sections 22-1-2, 22-1-3 and 22-1-4 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1955, relating to the number and ap- pointment, the term of office and the qualifications of members of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake City, be, and the same hereby are, amended to read as follows: "Sec. 22-1-2. Number and appointment. The Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake City shall consist of five members; one of whom shall be an ex officio director and shall be the Commissioner of Water Supply and Waterworks of Salt Lake City, and the other four shall be appointed by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City. "Sec. 22-1-3. Term of office. The ex officio director shall be a director during such time as he shall be Commissioner of Water Supply and Waterworks and of the four appointed dir- ectors, one shall hold office until the 15th day of May, 1965; one shall hold office until the 15th day of May, 1966; one shall hold office until the 15th day of May, 1968; and one shall hold office until the 15th day of May, 1969. The initial terms of directors shall be determined by lot and upon the expiration of such terms the ensuing term of office for each appointed director shall be six years. "Sec. 22-1-4. Qualifications. The appointed members of the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Salt Lake City shall be registered voters, property taxpayers and residents of Salt Lake City. No person shall be eligible for appointment to the Board of Directors who is an officer or employee of Salt Lake City, and an appointed director shall forfeit his position as director if at any time after appoint- ment such director becomes an officer or employee of Salt Lake City. The appointment of directors by the Board of Commissioners shall be made without regard to partisan political affiliations and shall be made from citizens of the highest integrity, attain- ment, competence and standing in the community of Salt Lake City." 28 - 2 - SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners, it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become effective immediately. SECTION 3.
