(Physical examinations)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 25-7-5 OF THE REVISED
ORDINANCES OF SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, 1965, RELATING TO PHYSICAL
EXAMINATIONS FOR CITY EMPLOYEES.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-7-5 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, is hereby amended to read as follows:
Sec. 25-7-5. Physical examinations. All officers and
employees of Salt Lake City shall be physically qualified for
their class of employment and in order to assure such
qualification shall be subject to the following provisions:
(1) Physical qualification. Condition of employment. No
person shall be regularly employed nor shall any person be
continued in employment unless such person is physically able to
meet the demands of the particular duties of that person's
position. Persons who are unable to meet the physical standards
for general employment may be assigned employment with restricted
duties.
(2) Rules and regulations. The Director of the Office of
Personnel Management, upon approval of the Mayor, shall adopt
rules and regulations governing physical qualifications for
employment.
(3) Records to be confidential. All physical examination
records shall be confidential to the examining physician and it
shall be unlawful for any reason to disclose any of the
information set forth in said records; provided, however, that
city officials authorized in writing by the Director of the
Office of Personnel Management may review such records when
necessary for the purpose of determining eligibility for
employment, transfer of employment, retention of employment,
allowance of workmen's compensation benefits, allowance of
disability retirement or other matters relating to such
employment physical examination when a review of such records is

essential to a fair determination of the problem involved.
SECTION 2. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication.
Passed by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah,
this 7th day of April , 1981.
