AN ORDINA_-NCE AMENDING CHAPTER LIX, OR THE Revised Ordi-
nances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1934, by adding in end to said Chap-
ter a new Section to be known as Section 1429, relating to traffic.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Chapter LIX, of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1934, be and the same is hereby amended by add-
ing in and to said chapter a new Section to be known as Section 1429,
relating to traffic, which shall read as follows:
SEC. 1429. CARELESS DRIVING. Any person who shall
drive a vehicle upon the streets of 'Salt Lake City without the
due care and caution of a reasonably prudent person and which
manner of driving does not amount to reckless driving is guilty
of a misdemeanor.
Whenever any person is arrested for a violation of
this ordinance, the arresting officer shall take the name and
address of said person and license number of his vehicle and
issue a summons, or otherwise notify him in writing, to appear
at a time and place specified in said summons or notice, which
time shall be at least five days after such arrest unless an
earlier date is demanded, in which event such person shall have
a right to appear. immediately.
Any person receiving such a summons or notice may
within five days after its receipt pay to the desk sergeant or
other officer in charge of the office of bail commissioner in
full satisfaction of such violation the sum of One Dollar
($1.00), which shall be remitted by the Chief of Police to the
City Treasurer.
Any person who shall violate the provisions of this
ordinance shall upon conviction be punished by a fine of not
to exceed $P5.00, or be imprisoned in the city jail for a term
not to exceed ten days, or by both such fine and imprisonment.
SECTION 5. In the opinion of the board of Commissioners,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants
of Salt Lake City:that this..ordinance become effective immediately.
SECTION '3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
first publication
