HomeMy WebLinkAbout31 of 1927 - Amending Section No. 606 relating to electrical inspection ROLL CALL VOTING AYE :,NAY Salt Lake City,Utah, S.ep.t.. , Burton I move that the ordinance be passed. 1 Fehr Finch !an ` Mr.Chairman AN ORDINANCE Result AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 606, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, as amended by an ordinance passed January 11, 1922; Section 610, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, as amended by an ordinance passed April 10, 1924; and Article XVII, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, by adding in and to said Article a new Section to be designated as Section 615, relating to electrical inspection. Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah: . SECTION I. That Section 606, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, as amended by an ordinance passed January 11, 1922,. be and the same is hereby amended to read as follows: SECTION 606. PERMITS. It shall be unlawful for any person, firm or corporation to install any electrical wiring, fixtures or apparatus in any building (except power houses and substations belonging to electric light or streat railway companies operating under a franchise granted by Salt Lake City) unless and until a permit for such work shall have been secured from the Bureau of Mechanical Inspection as provided in this section. Permits for the installation of electric wiring, power, fixtures, appliances'or apparatus, shall be issued only to a licensed cbntbariting electrioian:,having an established place of business in Salt Lake City, which shall be stated in the application for such permit.c 4 l 1 It shall be unlawful for any person to do any electriica4 wiring or other electrical installation under any permit ex- cept regular and bona fide employees of the licensed contrae$- ing electrician named in such permit. It shall be unlawful for any licensed contracting elect- I trician to secure or aid in securing any permit for any person who is not licensed, or to permit the use of any permit by any person other than the one named in such permit. For the purpose of this section a licensed contracting 1 electrician shall mean any person holding a contracting elec- trician's license, or an electrical maintenance license limit- ed to work he is authorized to do, as provided in Section ji 1272, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, as amended December 26, 1927. No permit shall be issued to any licensed contracting electrician during the time that he shall fail to remedy any defective work, after he has been notified in writing by the Chief of the Division of Electrical Inspection that he has II been held responsible therefor under these regulations. SECTION 2. That Section 610, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, as amended by an ordinance passed by the p oard of Commissioners of Salt Lake City, Utah, on April 10th, 19214, Ibe and the same is hereby amended by amending paragraphs (b), (f), 1(g) and th), and inserting in and to said Section a new paragraph to be known as paragraph (m), which shall read as follows: (b) BATH ROOMS. Service switches, cut-puts and meters 1 1 must not be placed in bath rooms and all light outlets must be controlled by wall switches. In bath rooms all switches 1 and wall receptacles must be flush type with the boxes and I plate securely grounded and fixtures must have keyless sockets. All metal fixtures within reach of one standing in a bath tub, 1 must be grounded. (f) All meter lops shall be controlled by switches or blocks equipped with testing clips, and the service cabinet/1 -'• shall be of such construction as to receive the standardized 1 I t it -6- meter „trio:ma 'These service cabinets shall be installed with standard end walls. (g) All wires hereinafter installed for furnishing light, heat or power in any building in the districts known as Fire Limits No. 1, No. 2 and Nos. 3, must be in conduit, and all new buildings hereafter erected in said Fire Limits No. 1, Nos. 2 and No. 3 must be wired in conduit. (h) All wires hereafter installed in buildings to be used for public or industrial purposes, such as churches, stores, halls, school buildings, garages, manufacturing es- tablishments and warehouses must be wired in conduit. All apartment houses more than one story high, containing five or more apartments must be wired in conduit. For the purpose of this section, conduit shall meah rigid metal conduit or approved metal moulding. By permission of inspection department, short length of flexible conduit may be used for motor connections or fisa- ing in inaccessible places. (m) For domestic electric range loads, the per cent of total connected load which may be used in determining the size of feeders shall not be less than given in the following table: No. of ranges. Demand Factor. 1 to 2 b 100'jo 3 to 4 95 5 to 6 . .. . . . 90 7 to 8. 80 9 to 13 . 70 14 to 18 60 18 to 22 55 Over 30 50 Where the range capacity exceeds 6 K.W. per range, a demand factor 10 per cent less than indicated by the above table may be used for installations comprising more than four ranges. SECTION 3. That Article XVII of Chapter 8 of the Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1920, be and the same is here by amended by adding in and to said Article a new Section to be j ` I I f k designated as Section 615, which shall read as follows: SECTION 615. The license of any contracting elec- trician may be revoked by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake City at any time upon notice and hearing for any vio- lation of any ordinance of Salt Lake City, pertaining to the installation of electrical fixtures or apparatus. ' SECTION 4. Any person violating any provision of this ordinance shall be punished by fine in wet sum not:5expeeding Two Hundred Ninety-nine ( 299.GO) Dollars or*by itnprisianiaent in the ' city jail not longer.:-than six months or ;lid both suo 4fine and im-! prisonment. The court may, in imposing the fine, erer as part of the judgment that indefault of the payment of the J1 3e the de- fendant may be imprisoned in the city jail for a period not ex- ceeding six months: SECTION 5. In the Opinion of the Board of Commissioners it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance shall take effect immediate- ly. SECTION 6.
