AN ORDINANCE ME]"DING SECTIONS 2130 and 2131 of Chapter
LXVII, Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, 192,0, relating to smoke
inspection and abatement.
Be it ordained by the Board of Commissioners of Salt Lake
City, Utah;
SECTION I. That Sections 2130 and 2131 of Chapter LX'VII,
Revised Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah;, 1920, be and the same
are hereby amended to read as follows:
SEC. 2130. DEPIO 1.iENT CREATED. There is hereby created
in the Department of Streets and Public Improvements a Depart-
ment of Smoke Inspection and Abatement which shall be under
the general direction of the City Engineer.
SEC. 2131. CHIE_ INSPECTOR AND CHIEF DEPUTY. The City
Engineer of Salt Lake City shall be ex-officio Chief Smoke In-
Spector. The Board of Commissioners may appoint a Chief Deputy
Smoke Inspector at a salary of not to exceed j2700.00 per annum.
The Chief Deputy Smoke Inspector shall be an engineer qualified
by training and experience in the theory and practice of the
construction and operation of steam boilers and furnaces and
also in the theory and practice of smoke abatement and preven-
' tion.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the Board of Commissioners,
it is necessary to the peace, health and safety of the inhabitants.

SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its
