Putnam Duncan to main- tain waste paper boxes on the sidewalks of Salt Lake City, and regu- lating the same. Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah: SECTION 1. That I. Putnam Duncan, his heirs and assigns, be, and he hereby is given the exclusive right and privilege, for the period of fifteen years, of placing and maintaining waste paper box- es upon the sidewalks of Salt Lake City, in the business district of !. said City. SECTION 2. Said boxes shall be made of galvanized iron, firmly] bound with angle steel, five feet high from walk to peak, set up on Ij nine inch legs, securely bolted to the sidewalks, making a stout, non-breakable receptacle adapted for the yu rpose required. Each boxl near the top shall be provided with openings to admit of the depositl ii of the paper and other waste material, and will he fitted at the bottom with a device for readily emptying and cleaning the box. They shall be of a uniform color and general appearance, and have in jj a prominent position in plain and legible letters the words "CITY .I I WASTE PAPER BOX" together with the name of the street on which such box stands. Such boxes are to he placed on the sidewalks adjoining I � the curb, securely fastened as above indicated, and arranged for convenience in emptying the same, and are to be kept clean and emptied as often as may be necessary, ander the direction end at the S.-LW expense of I. Putnam Duncan or 40,44s assess. Not more than four of A said boxes shall be placed on each side of a block. SECTION 3. Said I. Putnam Duncan may use the surface of said ,I boxes, excepting the space necessary for the name of the street and the words "CITY WASTE PAPER BOX", for t`ie purpose of placing neatly painted or printed advertisements thereon. Such advertisements Shall be as nearly as possible of uniform size and style, and of decent subject matter and appearance. 35 C� 1 1 SECTION 4. Said Ii Putnam Duncan, his heirs and assigns, shall yyror.r i pay into the City Treasury annually five per cent of the�tf t_mr►t- 1 aee from the said advertisements upon said boxes, and to this end he shall furnish a bond to the City in the sum of five Hundred ($500.00) dollars with sureties to be approved by the Mayor, condi- tioned for the prompt payment of said percentage. The City Treasur- er shall at all times have access to the books and accounts of said I. Putnam Duncan, his heirs and assigns, touching said business. 1 SECTION 5. Said I. Putnam Duncan, his heirs and assigns, shall begin the vrork of placing said boxes upon said sidewalks within three months after the approval of this ordinance, and shall have not less than fifty of said boxes in place and ready for use within twelve months from said date. SECTION 6. Any breach by said I. Putnam Duncan, or his heirs i or assigns, of anyrequirementhereof shall be , ground for the revo- cation of this franchise, and the City Council hereby reserves the i right at any time to cancel or annul this franchise for any viola- i tion of any of the provisions hereof. SECTION 7.
