An Ordinance forbidding the riding of Bicycles upon sidewalks
within certain districts, establishing Bicycle strips, and providing penalties
for violations of the same, etc.,
Be it Ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:-
Sec. 1. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle upon any
sidewalk within the following described district;
On the North side of South Temple Street from the Oregon Short Line Depot
East to "0" Street;
On the South side of South Temple Street from West Temple Street East to
State Street;
On the North Side of First South Street from First West Street to East to
TenthAStreet;
On the South side of First South Street from the Gerfirld Beach Depot East
to Second East Street.
On the South side of Second South Street from the Rio Grande Western POW-
senger Depot East to Second East Street.
On the North side of Second South Street from First West Street East to
Tenth East Street.
On both sides of Third South Street from West Temple Street East to Second
East Street.
On the North side of Fourth South Street from West Temple Street East to
Second East Street.
On both sides of West Temple Street from. South Temple Street to Fourth Soutk
Street, and on the East side of West Temple Street from Fourth South to. Sixth
South Street.
On both aides Of Main Street from South Temple Street to Fourth South Strew
and on the West side of Main Street from Fourth South to Sixth South Street.
On both sides of State Street from North Temple Street South to Fourth Sout
Street, and on the West side of State Street from Fourth South Street to Sixth
South Street.
All of, Richards Street, Commercial Street, Market Street and Franklin Ave;

Sec. 2. It is provided that bicycles may be ridden between October Oft* '
and May 31st, of each year on the following restricted side-walks:
South Temple Street from West Temple eastfo1 State Street on the south side
of the street.
On the north side of First South Street from State Street to Second East St.
Cn the south side of First South Street from First West Street to•West
Temple Street.
On the .South side of Second South Street from State Street to Second East
Street.
On the South side of Third South Street from State Street to Second East St.
Sec. 3. It shall be unlawful for any person to ride a bicycle on any of
the side-walks of Salt Lake City, at a speed greater than six miles an hour, or
to pass any street intersection, or to turn any corner when any Pedestrian is. •

near or at any place where any person may be entering or leaving a street car
at any intersection, at a speed greater than four miles per hour, and when pass-
ing any pedestrian on any sidewalk the rider must ion slow up.
Sec. 4. It shall be unlawful for any bicycle amompaillibroolaiii to be
ridden after one hour after sunset without having a light attached to the front
of the via;. < /
Sec. 5. On all streets in Salt Lake City where the sidewalks are restricted
to bicycles, there is hereby reserved avid set apart for the exclusive use of bi-
cycles, a strip consisting of eight feet in width in the centre of the street,
provided than where any railroad track runs along any such street there shall
be two strips four feet in width, one on each side of the outer rails of such
railroad.
Sec. 6. It is berebi made the duty of the Supervisor of Streets to con-
struct and keep in good repair, free from rocks and other obstructions, said
bicycle strips.
Sec. 7. It shall be the duty of the Street Supervisor to see that the city
sprinklers shall not sprinkle the. strips so set apart for bicycles.
Sec. 8. All persons using said strips shall keep to the right thereof, en(

where there are two strips, must keep to the right hand strip.
Sec. 9. All animals, wagons, carriages and other vehicles are hereby
prohibited from entering upon the Bicycle strips hereby reserved and set
apart for the exclusive use of bicycles, except when necessarily crossing
the same at right angles thereto.
Sec. 10. All vehicles must keep to the right of the street.
Sec. 11. For the purpose of enforcing the provisions of this Ordinance
the Chief of Police is hereby authorised to appoint in the manner provided by
Ordinance, any number of special policemen; said special policemen to serve
without compensation, unless the City Council may hereafter provide otherwise.
Sec. 12. Any person who shall violate any of the provisions of this Ordi-
nance shall be guilty of misdemeanor, and upon conviction thereof, is liable
J to a fine in any sum not less than Five ($5.00) Dollars or more than Twenty-
five (S25.00) Dollars for each and every offense, or may be compelled to yield
possession of his or her wheel or vehicle to the officer making the arrest, or
.' to any proper officer of the City as security,- pending the hearing and deter-
mination of the offense complained of; excepting however; if any person is con-
victed of injuring any pedestrian while scorching, they shall be liable to a
fine of not less than Ten ($10.00) Dollars nor more than Twenty-five ($25.00)
Dollars.
Sec. 13. All other Ordinances and resolutions and parts of Ordinances
and resolutions relating to bicycles are hereby repealed.
