AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR 2ETTER PROTECTION OF THE WATER SUPPLY
Ii CASE OF FIRE, AND IMPOSING A PFENALTY FOR VIOLATIONS THEREOF.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, that,
Sec. 1. It shall be the duty of the Chief of the Fire Department to
cause a loud whistle to he sounded when any fire shall break out within
the limits of Salt Lake City, which shall be a warning signal to all
persons, firm, or corpo n usingwater from the City water system

to desists ¢- '— rom the use of such water until after such
fire shall be estingui hed and a secon signal given announcing the same,
and it shall. be the duty of the Chief of Fire Department to give. public
notice of the character of such signals.
Sec. 2. When any fire shall break out within the limits of this
City, and said whistle shall be sounded as provided in the foregoing seq

tion, all street anO lawn sprinkling shall at once cease, and all use of
il
such water, except such as is imperatively necessary, shall at once cease,
and discontinue until the signal be given of the extinguishment of the
fire.
Sec. 3. Any person, firm_or corporation who shall violate any of
the provisions of this ordinance, or who shall unnecessaril? use water
during the time herein provided, shall be guilty of an offense, and upon
conviction thereof shall be fined in any sum not exceeding Fifty Dollars,
or imprisoned in the City jail not exceeding fifty days, or to both such
fine and imprisonment.
< F•ay Sec. 4. All ordinances and resOiutions and parts of ordinances and
resolutions in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
This ordinance shall take effect from and after its approval.
