ORDINANCE
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING Section 25-5-1 of the Revised
Ordinances of Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, by amending Subsection
(d) thereof and adding a new subsection (e) thereto, relating to
longevity pay for City personnel.
Be it ordained by the City Council of Salt Lake City, Utah:
SECTION 1. That Section 25-5-1 of the Revised Ordinances of
Salt Lake City, Utah, 1965, be, and the same hereby is amended by
adding a new subsection (e) thereof and amending subsection (d),
to read as follows:
25-5-1. * * *
(d) Every peace officer employed within the Police Unit
of the City who has completed nine (9) full years of
employment with the police department shall receive a
monthly pay benefit, in addition to and as part of his/her
base salary or hourly rate, equal to four percent (4%) of
his/her monthly base salary; and every such officer who has
completed fourteen (14) full years of service in the police
department shall receive a monthly pay benefit, in addition
to and as part of his/her base salary or hourly rate, equal
to five percent (5%) of his/her monthly base salary.
This longevity benefit shall be contingent upon full
compliance by eligible officers of all productivity and
performance standards as shall be promulgated by the Chief
of Police and such standards approved by the Mayor and upon
certification by the City Budget Director that sufficient
monies are available and have been appropriated to fund this
benefit.
(e) All officers and employees of the City not specified
in subsections (a) through (d) above, who have completed
fourteen (14) consecutive full years of employment with the
City shall after their fifteenth anniversary date receive a
monthly longevity benefit in the sum of $61.50 per month.
The years of employment specified hereunder shall not be
required to he consecutive for receipt of this longevity
benefit by employees of the Clerical Unit, if the employee's
absence from service was due to involuntary termination
following five (5) years or more of consecutive employment
with the City and the employee was re-employed by the City
within twenty-four (24) months of such termination.
SECTION 2. In the opinion of the City Council of Salt Lake
City, it is necessary to the peace, health and welfare of the
inhabitants of Salt Lake City that this ordinance become
effective immediately.
SECTION 3. This ordinance shall take effect upon its first
publication and shall be retroactive in effect to April 1, 1980.
